Dunkirk turns the tables on Trojans
Wins 1-0 on Piede single in 7th; Cosme pitches a gem
Anthony Piede’s single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Ariez Cheverez with the winning run as Dunkirk edged Southwestern 1-0 in walk-off fashion in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 baseball game Saturday.
Piede’s heroics made a winner of Marauders’ pitcher Anthony Cosme, who allowed just two hits, struck out nine and walked two in his complete-game effort.
Josh Lemanski and Alex Biscaro had the other hits off Trojans’ losing pitcher Lucas Genareo, who struck out 16 and walked five.
Oscar Harris had a double and Michael Rambacher added a single for Southwestern (1-2, 1-1).
Dunkirk, which suffered a 5-4 walk-off loss to the Trojans on Friday, improved to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the division.
BIANCO TOSSES NO-HITTER
CATTARAUGUS — Chase Bianco pitched a no-hitter against Cattaraugus-Little Valley.
He was pretty good at the plate, too.
Added together, his efforts helped Falconer post an 11-0 victory in five innings in a Division 3 game.
Bianco struck out eight, walked two and helped his own cause with a base hit and two RBIs. Erik Stenstrom added a double and an RBI, and Griffin Knopp also belted a two-bagger for the Golden Falcons (2-0 2-0).
Caleb Aguiar took the loss for the Timberwolves (0-3 0-2).
CARDS PREVAIL
RANDOLPH — Randolph (4-1, 3-0) needed five innings to down North Collins 17-6 in a Division 3 game.
Kevin McElwain, Bryson Pitts and Aiden Taylor (double) all had two hits; Logan Briggs and Zachary Lindquist both had a double; Briggs drove in three runs; and Raegan Smith had two RBIs in support of winning pitcher Hunter Foster.
M. Colon (two RBIs) smacked a double for North Collins (0-6, 0-2).
GOWANDA WINS IN EXTRAS
GOWANDA — Gowanda took advantage of 16 walks and scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to trim Portville 6-5 in a Division 3 game.
Aidan Geiger had a double for the Panthers (3-2, 3-0), who were limited to four hits, but rode a strong pitching performance by starter Carter Capozzi, who struck out 12 in 6.1 innings.
D. Chudy, T. Kosinski (double) had two hits apiece, and A. DeFazio chipped in a double for Portville.
BLACK KNIGHTS FALL
SILVER CREEK — Austin Miles collected three hits, and Landon Johnson and Alex Jones added two hits and two RBIs apiece to spark Olean to a 12-3 Division 1 victory over Silver Creek/Forestville.
Noah Carmill, Dominick Meyers and Johnson combined to toss a five-hitter for the Huskies (3-0, 2-0).
Manny Sanchez had a hit and drove in a run for Silver Creek/Forestville.
KING HAD A DAY
JAMESTOWN — Matt King had himself a career day in Lancaster’s Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 doubleheader sweep over Jamestown at Diethrick Park.
All told, the senior collected five hits, including three home runs and a double, and drove in 10 runs as the Legends breezed to 19-1 and 18-8 victories.
Teammate Cole Notaro, another senior, banged out six hits in the twin bill — one of them a home run. Pitchers Brandon Leto and Adam Fisher, both juniors, combined on a three-hitter in the opener for Lancaster (3-0, 2-0). Junior Karson Milne had a double, and sophomore Ryan Engquist and junior Nick Smeraldo both had singles for the Red & Green.
In the second game, Jamestown (1-4, 0-2) collected 11 hits. Senior Chase Bonta smacked a pair of doubles, freshman Alaric Richards had two singles and junior Julian Jackson added a triple.
