Fredonia plates 8 in second, rolls Salamanca 13-3 in D1

FREDONIA — The first eight batters of the second inning reached base and scored for Fredonia in its 13-3 win over visiting Salamanca on Wednesday.

Issiah Ruiz got it started with a sacrifice fly to score Pauly Tabone. Jack Frame added an RBI single, followed by a Max Hazelton bases-loaded walk. Matt Cowan’s two-run single, Brady Crawford’s RBI double and Colin Luce’s two-run double rounded out the attack for the Hillbillies (6-0, 4-0).

Fredonia would tack on two more in the third on RBI singles from Crawford and Tabone. Cowan added a two-out, RBI single in the fourth. The game ended, via the 10-run mercy rule, when Brady Crawford drove in the final two runs with a line drive down the left field line.

Luce earned the win, throwing 4 1/3 innings, striking out one, scattering four hits and allowing only two runs. He left with the score 11-2. Gavin Piazza threw the final 1 2/3 innings, striking out the side in the sixth.

Crawford finished with three hits, including a double, and four RBIs. Cowan delivered three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored. Luce had two hits and two RBIs.

Payton Bradley had two hits and Wyatt Bialaszewski had two RBIs for the Warriors (4-3, 0-2).

FOUR-RUN SECOND PROPELS WESTFIELD

MAYVILLE — Westfield jumped on top with a four-run second inning and never trailed en route to an 8-5 Division 2 win over Chautauqua Lake.

Trent Ramm led the Wolverines (3-2, 3-2) with two hits and an RBI while Paolo Lescano, Nolan Anderson and Ian Kinderman each added a single. Parker Covert drove in a pair of runs.

Joey Russo struck out six in six innings on the mound before Logan Baum got the final three outs for Westfield.

Clayton Smith had two hits, including a double, and scored twice; Greyson Wellman went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs; and Logan Fuller doubled, drove in a run and scored a run for the Eagles (4-2, 2-2).

Michael Jauss and Fuller combined for 10 strikeouts on the mound.

MAPLE GROVE GETS BY BEARS LATE

BEMUS POINT — Maple Grove scored three runs in its final two at-bats to beat Frewsburg 7-5 in Division 2 action.

The teams were tied 4-4 after four innings before Aleck Garrett’s two-run single in the bottom of the fifth gave the Red Dragons a 6-4 lead. Liam Price added a run in the sixth as Maple Grove’s lead grew to three.

In Frewsburg’s half of the seventh, Drake Beckstrom reached and scored on Trent Haglund’s RBI single to make it 7-5, but a groundout to third base with the bases loaded ended the game.

Ezekiel Padd had two hits, including a double, and Gavin Darr added a pair of hits for the Red Dragons.

On the mound, Darr allowed five hits and struck out five while retiring 12 in a row at one point in the game.

For Frewsburg, Gavin Weaver tossed six innings and struck out seven. Trent Lewis hit a two-run single in the first inning. Connor Campion and Weaver each added a single.

GOWANDA COMPLETES MARATHON SWEEP

GOWANDA — Gowanda completed a two-game Division 3 sweep of Falconer, prevailing in a suspended game from Tuesday 8-6 in 13 innings before taking the regularly scheduled game 13-1 in five innings.

Tied 6-6 when darkness won out Tuesday, the teams played four more scoreless innings when they started Wednesday before the Panthers scored twice in the top of the 13th. Tristin Luther walked and Nicholas Smuda hit a single before a poor bunt left runners at first and second. After a fielder’s choice again left runners at first and second, Aiden Geiger hit an RBI single and Carter Capozzi hit an RBI double.

The Golden Falcons went down in order in the bottom of the 13th as Capozzi finished five innings of three-hit relief, striking out five and walking two.

Aiden Geiger then started Game 2 and threw five innings of four-hit ball, striking out five while walking one.

Smuda led the Gowanda (5-2, 5-0) offense, going 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored; Drew Kota went 2 for 2 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored; and Aiden Geiger doubled, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice.

For Falconer (2-2, 2-2), Erik Stenstrom doubled and scored a run while Logan Johnson singled and drove in a run.

BURCHANOWSKI HAS BIG DAY AT PLATE

CLYMER — Gavin Burchanowski went 3 for 5 with a triple, two walks and five runs scored to jump-start Clymer/Sherman/Panama to a 14-6 Division 2 win over Pine Valley.

Max White was 2 for 2 with three walks, two RBIs and two runs scored while Johnny Abers singled, walked twice, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice for the Wolfpack (2-4, 2-1).

Clymer/Sherman/Panama’s Abers and Ryland Posker combined for five strikeouts on the mound.

Liam Bradigan went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored while Jarrett Meyers and Landon Reger each scored twice for the Panthers (2-4, 1-2).

Bradigan, Tyler Pfleuger and Meyers combined for eight strikeouts on the mound.

SOUTHWESTERN CAN’T HOLD ON IN 7TH

OLEAN — Caine DeGolier’s RBI double plated Dominick Myers with the game-winning run as Olean walked off a 5-4 winner over Southwestern in Division 1 action.

The Trojans trailed 4-2 entering the top of the seventh, but tied the game with a pair of runs. Oliver Stump and Lucas Genareo walked to open the inning before a balk and an RBI groundout by Wilson Genareo. Oscar Harris followed with an RBI single to tie the game. With the bases loaded and just one out, the Huskies’ Landon Johnson relieved and got out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts.

Wilson Genareo hit a first-inning home run while Lucas Genareo was 2 for 3 with a double for Southwestern (2-2, 2-1).

Lucas Genareo and Wilson Genareo combined for nine strikeouts on the mound.

For Olean (3-1, 2-1), DeGolier was 3 for 3; Myers was 3 for 4 with two runs scored; Austin Miles was 2 for 4 with a run scored; and Alex Jones doubled.

Miles struck out nine while allowing four hits in six innings of work on the mound.

WOJTOWICZ SCORES WINNER FOR RANDOLPH

RANDOLPH — Laiden Wojtowicz scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Randolph beat Ellicottville 7-6 in Division 3 play.

The Cardinals trailed 6-4 entering their final at-bat before plating three runs on a hit, two walks and a hit batter.

Hunter Foster went 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored; Bryson Pitts was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and a run scored; and Randall Nottingham doubled and scored three times for Randolph (6-1, 5-0).

Foster and Gavin Senn combined for seven strikeouts on the mound.

For the Eagles (5-2, 2-2), Rylan Benjamin hit a home run and scored twice while Cameron Mendell and A.J. Myers each added a single.

Mendell struck out seven in six innings on the mound.

JAMESTOWN EARNS FIRST LEAGUE WIN

BUFFALO — Chase Bonta collected three hits, including a double, two RBIs and four runs scored as Jamestown defeated Williamsville North 10-2 in Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division 1 action.

Ryan Engquist added another two singles, two RBIs and a run scored for the Red & Green (2-6, 1-3). Karson Milne earned the win on the bump after giving up just three hits and striking out 10 batters in 5 1/3 innings of work, while Jackson Grey finished the game with another three strikeouts, a walk and four hits allowed.

John Coppola was the losing pitcher for Williamsville North (3-3, 2-2) after going 2 2/3 innings with five runs, three strikeouts and three walks.

BLACK KNIGHTS SCORE 11 IN 4TH INNING

SILVER CREEK — Leading 3-1 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, Silver Creek/Forestville scored 11 times to put away Allegany-Limestone 14-1.

Manny Sanchez walked, Cody Neubauer bunted for a single and Ryan Skinner walked before Hunter Anderson drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the first run of the inning. Dom Anders followed with a two-run single and later, Damien Bell hit a two-run triple. Sanchez, Neubauer and Skinner added RBI singles before the inning was over.

Anderson allowed four hits and did not walk a batter while striking out seven on the mound for the Black Knights (4-3, 2-2).
