Forestville outscores Gowanda in D3 opener
FORESTVILLE — Opening up defense of its 2025 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 3 championship, Forestville jumped on top of Gowanda 8-1 in the first inning en route to a 12-9 victory Tuesday.
Addison Kota gave the Panthers an early 1-0 lead when she doubled and later scored on an error.
But the Hornets (1-0, 1-0) answered quickly. Carilene Sliwa opened the bottom of the first with a double, advanced to third and scored when Elizabeth Case reached on a dropped third strike. After a walk and a flyout, Madison Christian hit an RBI double to make it 2-1. Olivia Valentine’s RBI single scored Emily Lillie and Alexandra Kerstetter singled before Kaylee Adamczak’s bases-loaded walk forced in the fourth run of the inning. Bases-loaded walks to Ava Schwerk and Sliwa made it 6-1 ahead of Case’s RBI single and another bases-loaded walk to Lillie.
Christian finished 2 for 3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored; Sliwa was 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored; Case was 2 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs scored; and Kerstetter also scored twice for Forestville.
Case tossed a complete game, allowing nine hits and four earned runs while striking out three and walking three.
Kota went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored while Kaela VanNote was 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored. Bizzy John added two hits, an RBI and a run scored for the Panthers (1-1, 0-1).
Kota threw the final three-plus innings, striking out seven and walking two while allowing no earned runs and two hits.
BLAIR TOSSES 16-STRIKEOUT 2-HITTER
SILVER CREEK — Madison Blair tossed a two-hitter with 16 strikeouts and two walks as Silver Creek beat Pine Valley 10-1 in Division 3 play.
The Black Knights (1-0, 1-0) trailed 1-0 after the first inning, but scored four runs in the second and two more in the third to take control.
In the second, Madisen Hein led off with a walk and scored on Priya Sakpal’s RBI double to left field. After a strikeout, Ava Zahm walked before another strikeout. After a passed ball advanced the runners, Rhyana Willis hit a two-run single ahead of Kyla Ziegler’s RBI double.
In the third, Blair led off with a walk and scored on Sakpal’s one-out RBI double. After a groundout, Sakpal scored on a wild pitch.
Sakpal finished 2 for 3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored; Willis was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored; Ziegler was 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored; and Rylee Weiskerger doubled, drove in a run and scored a run.
For the Panthers (0-2, 0-1), Brooke Dustin-McCoy and Lily Hohl each singled. Madilynn Robertson struck out six in a complete-game effort in the circle.
BURNETT MATCHES SOUTHWESTERN RECORD
DUNKIRK — Madelyn Burnett tied a Southwestern record with 16 strikeouts as the Trojans beat Dunkirk 10-3 in Division 1 action.
Burnett tossed a complete-game one-hitter with three walks for Southwestern (2-3, 1-0).
Arianna Silakowski went 2 for 4 with a double; Leala Carlson was 2 for 5 with two RBIs; Lily Williams-Jones was 2 for 4 with two RBIs; and Burnett hit a two-run single to lead the Trojans offense.
Maria Dolce had the Marauders’ lone hit. Gabriella Grann and Edalee Aniszewski combined for seven strikeouts in the circle for Dunkirk (1-2, 0-1).
OLEAN DOMINATES RED & GREEN
OLEAN — Ari Finch hit two singles, a double and scored four times as Olean cruised past Jamestown 23-5 in Division 1 action.
Tiana Maine earned the win in the circle with six strikeouts and six walks for the Huskies (1-2, 1-0).
Jamestown (0-1, 0-1) received two hits and two runs from Chloe Degnan. Allison MacCallum walked twice and scored, and Emily Maggio recorded one strikeout in the circle.
TRUMAN STYMIES FREDONIA
FREDONIA — Allegany-Limestone’s Kailey Truman tossed one-hit ball through six innings and struck out 11 as the Gators beat Fredonia 8-0 in Division 1 action.
Allegany-Limestone (2-1, 1-0) led 4-0 after five innings before tacking on a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh.
Ava Muck singled in the fifth inning for the Hillbillies (0-1, 0-1). Freshman McKella Hodkin allowed four runs in five innings while striking out two in the circle.
EDEN DROPS SALAMANCA TO 2-2
SALAMANCA — Victoria Osinski went 3 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs to lead Eden past Salamanca 18-3 in nonleague play.
Leanna Seargent also went 4 for 5 for the Raiders (3-0).
Charli Ross was 2 for 3 with an RBI; Hadleigh Krug was 2 for 3; and Delaney Harley tripled for the Warriors (2-2).
