Wolfpack baseball edges Brocton/CV
BROCTON — Micaleb Anderson went 3 for 4 with a double to lead Clymer/Sherman/Panama to a 5-3 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 win over Brocton/Cassadaga Valley, in a game that was resumed from a Wednesday rain delay.
The Bulldogs (0-3, 0-1) led 3-0 through four innings, thanks to RBI singles by Jackson Crowell and Chris Furman in the first inning, and another RBI single by Crowell in the fourth.
The Wolfpack (1-3, 1-0) took the lead with a four-run top of the sixth inning. Max White, Mason Groters and Daniel Redlecki hit consecutive singles before White scored on a wild pitch. Anderson then came through with a two-run single to center field to tie the game and Ryland Posker later hit a sacrifice fly.
Clymer/Sherman/Panama added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Anderson hit an RBI double to score Groters.
Gavin Burchanowski scattered 10 hits in six innings, striking out four. White earned the save with a scoreless inning of relief during which he struck out one. Burchanowski also had two hits at the plate.
Anthony Gatto, Crowell and Nico Blattenberger each had two hits for Brocton/Cassadaga Valley. Gatto struck out eight in five innings on the mound.
RANDOLPH WINS IN TOP OF 7TH INNING
NORTH COLLINS — Randolph scored three times in the top of the seventh inning to break a 6-6 tie and beat North Collins 9-6 in Division 3 play.
Randall Nottingham reached on a fielder’s choice for the first out of the frame before a stolen base and Kevin McElwain’s single pushed him to third base. After McElwain stole second, Bryson Pitts hit an RBI groundout to give the Cardinals (3-1, 2-0) the lead. Laiden Wojtowicz then walked ahead of Aiden Taylor’s two-run single to center field.
The Eagles (0-5, 0-1) put two runners on with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but a strikeout and a groundout ended the game.
Nottingham finished with two hits, including a double, and three runs scored; Pitts had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored; and Taylor had two hits and three RBIs for Randolph. Taylor and Gavin Senn combined for 12 strikeouts on the mound.
Vince Montaldi had two hits, including a double, two RBIs and a run scored; Jon Rice had two hits, an RBI and a run scored; and Dennis Daley doubled and scored a run for North Collins. Manny Colon struck out seven in six innings of work on the mound.
FALCONER TOSSES NO-HITTER
FALCONER — Colton Rhinehart and Griffin Knopp combined for a five-inning no-hitter with eight strikeouts and two walks as Falconer shut out Cattaraugus-Little Valley 15-0 in Division 3 action.
Erik Stenstrom led the Golden Falcons (1-0, 1-0) on offense with three hits, including two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored. Gavin Curtis was 3 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Isaiah Washington, Chase Bianco, Logan Johnson and Rhinehart each scored at least two runs.
Noah Ulinger struck out three in three-plus innings on the mound for the Timberwolves (0-2, 0-1).
LEWIS POWERS FREWSBURG
FREWSBURG — Trent Lewis went 3 for 3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored as Frewsburg beat Chautauqua Lake 11-2 in Division 2 play.
The Bears (1-3, 1-1) took a 6-0 lead with a five-run second inning.
Connor Campion had two singles and scored three times while Gavin Weaver earned the win on the mound, throwing five innings while striking out six.
Greyson Wellman doubled and scored on Trent Houser’s two-run home run in the fourth inning for the Eagles (3-1, 1-1). Clayton Smith threw five innings and struck out one.
On Wednesday, the same teams played in Mayville with Chautauqua Lake winning 7-4.
Devin Hewes allowed one hit through six innings, struck out 14 and walked four for Chautauqua Lake, which scored three runs in the first inning and four more in the third. Smith went 2 for 3 to lead the Eagles offense.
For the Bears, Weaver singled in the fifth to break up the no-hitter.
THURSDAY
GOWANDA COMPLETES SWEEP
GOWANDA — Aidan Geiger and Jayden Fish combined on a five-inning no-hitter with 13 strikeouts as Gowanda beat Franklinville 14-0 in the second game of a Division 3 doubleheader Thursday night.
Geiger went 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored to lead the Gowanda (2-2, 2-0) offense. Drew Kota singled, drove in two runs and scored three times.
