21 golfers clinch spots at state qualifier

Twenty-one golfers clinched their spots in next Monday’s Section VI boys golf state qualifier with their showings in Monday’s Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 and Division 2 qualifiers held at Tri-County Country Club and Bartlett Country Club, respectively.
In Division 1, Fredonia is sending six golfers to sectionals, Jamestown has three representatives, Olean and Southwestern have two qualifiers apiece, and Cassadaga Valley also has a representative after their performances in Forestville.
Fredonia senior Ryan Kelly and freshman Jordan Kelly, along with Jamestown senior Evan Maloney were exempt from Monday’s qualifier after reaching the state tournament last year.
In addition to the Kellys, the Hillbillies will have senior Grant Abbey (85), freshman Kaison Malkowski (86), senior RJ Koopman (90) and freshman Nico Fadale (92) at next week’s state qualifier.
The Red & Green’s Maloney will be joined by teammates Tyler Salvaggio (87) and Chase Kolstee (89), both seniors.
Olean will send junior Cam Bartman (95) and senior Finn Caya (95) while Southwestern will be represented by sophomores Ejuah Sarvaiyah (95) and alternate Gunnar Anderson (97).
Cassadaga Valley’s qualifier is sophomore Jackson Marsh (90).
In Division 2, four of the seven representatives are from Randolph after their performances in Olean.
Cardinals junior Matt Beaver led the way with a 77, followed by senior Cody Slade (86), senior Jaxon Morrison (88) and senior Broden Brooks (91).
Ellicottville will send two golfers to the state qualifier: senior Cameron Mendell shot an 82 and junior Coleman Carls fired an 89.
The final qualifier is Cattaraugus-Little Valley senior Owen Wright, who fired an 83 on Monday.
The state qualifier will be held at Shelridge Country Club in Medina. Section VI will send nine golfers to the state tournament, which will be held June 7-9 at Mill Creek Golf Club in Rochester.
