WEDNESDAY

FREDONIA EDGES CHAUTAUQUA LAKE

FREDONIA — The Fredonia Hillbillies could only muster four hits and two runs against Chautauqua Lake starter Michael Jauss (6 â…” innings, five strikeouts), but it was enough as Colin Luce and Pauly Tabone combined to hold the Eagles to only three hits and a run in a 2-1 nonleague game Wednesday.

Luce, starting on Senior Night, didn’t allow a hit until Devin Hewes led off the fourth inning with a single and didn’t allow a run until the fifth.

Fredonia struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Ryan Johnson reached base on a fielder’s choice, stole second and scored on a Matt Cowan two-out RBI single.

The Eagles challenged in the fourth, loading the bases with one out on Hewes’ single and two walks. However, the Hillbillies were able to get out of trouble when a Chase Howser line drive was snared by shortstop Brady Crawford, who was able to race to second base for the unassisted double play.

In the bottom half of the fourth, Fredonia’s Luka Paoletta tripled to right field and later scored on a two-out Johnson RBI single.

In the fifth, Chautauqua Lake loaded the bases with one out. Despite a wild pitch, catcher Jack Frame was able to track it down in time and flip to Tabone for the out at the plate, with the trail runners each advancing one base. Tabone then threw behind the runner at second base, who got in a rundown long enough for the lead runner to tally the Eagles first run of the game.

In its final at-bat, Chautauqua Lake made one last push to tie the game. After a leadoff walk and a bunt single, Johnson made a tough catch in right field and then delivered a perfect one-hop throw to third baseman Issiah Ruiz to cut down the lead runner for the double play.

Fredonia put the game away when Tabone back-picked the runner at second base.

TUESDAY

FREDONIA OUTSLUGS LAKE SHORE

ANGOLA — A pair of four-run innings and a three-run inning helped Fredonia slip past nonleague Lake Shore 11-6 on Tuesday.

The first two batters for the Hillbillies reached base (Matt Cowan walk and Rocco Muscarella single) and the visitors looked to quickly capitalize but were turned away by a Lake Shore triple play.

The Eagles struck first in the bottom half of the first inning when Evan Lamoreaux walked and later scored on a passed ball.

Fredonia would strike for four runs in the third inning when Cowan walked and Muscarella singled again. Colin Luce delivered a two-run double and would later score on a Pauly Tabone RBI single. Tabone would come home on a wild pitch.

Lake Shore wasted no time tying the game on a Lamoreaux three-run home run.

In the top of the fourth inning, Fredonia would plate four runs again. Brennan Cave and Cowan walked followed by a Muscarella hit by pitch. Cave scored on a wild pitch, Luce drove in Cowan on an RBI fielder’s choice, and Muscarella and Luce each scored on two more wild pitches.

The Hillbillies put the game away in the seventh behind a Cowan walk, Muscarella’s third hit of the game, Luce’s second two-run double and a wild pitch to score Luce.

Luce finished with two doubles, two runs scored and five RBIs. Muscarella had three hits and three runs scored. Tabone added three hits and two RBIs while Cowan walked four times, stole five bases and scored three times.
