Bulldogs top Frewsburg 3-2 late
BROCTON — A run in the bottom of the fifth inning broke a 2-2 tie as Brocton/Cassadaga Valley beat Frewsburg 3-2 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 baseball Monday.
The Bulldogs’ (6-3, 5-1) Anthony Gatto led off the fifth with a walk and stole second with one out before scoring the go-ahead run on an error.
Aiden Cusimano reached on an error to lead off the top of the seventh inning, then stole second, but was picked off for the first out of the inning. Brocton/Cassadaga Valley reliever then struck out the final two batters of the game for the save.
Gatto earned the win, allowing six hits and two runs over six innings while striking out three.
Drake Beckstrom took the loss for Frewsburg (1-6, 1-5), allowing five hits and three runs (one earned) while striking out 11 and walking three.
Chris Furman singled and drove in a run for the Bulldogs.
Beckstrom had two of the Bears’ six hits and also drove in a run.
BURCHANOWSKI HAS BIG DAY
SOUTH DAYTON — Gavin Burchanowski went 3 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and four runs scored to lead Clymer/Sherman/Panama past Pine Valley 8-2 in Division 2 action.
Max White went 2 for 5 with two RBIs and Mason Groters was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored for the Wolfpack (2-8, 2-5).
Johnny Abers threw a complete-game four-hitter with two strikeouts and four walks. Neither run he allowed was earned.
Liam Bradigan, Cameron Howard and Tyler Pfleuger combined for seven strikeouts on the mound for the Panthers (2-7, 1-5).
FALCONER SWEEPS D3 TWINBILL
FALCONER — Falconer swept a Division 3 doubleheader from Franklinville, winning the first game 9-0 in five innings before a 14-8 five-inning win in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Golden Falcons’ Erik Stenstrom tossed one-hit ball while striking out 12. He threw 45 of his 56 pitches for strikes.
Offensively, Conner Brently homered and drove in a pair of runs while Stenstrom doubled twice, drove in a run and scored twice.
In Game 2, the Panthers (0-10, 0-9) led 8-4 after two innings before Falconer scored the final 10 runs of the game.
Isaiah Washington was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored; Stenstrom was 2 for 4 with a double, a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored; Griffin Knopp went 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored; and Colton Rhinehart doubled, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice for the Golden Falcons (6-3, 6-3).
Chase Bianco earned the win in relief, striking out seven while walking four and allowing four hits. Just two of the five runs he allowed were earned.
For Franklinville, Trevin Lane went 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored while Mason Blecha went 2 for 2 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.
LUCAS GENAREO TOSSES GEM
LAKEWOOD — Lucas Genareo threw a five-inning two-hitter with 11 strikeouts and two walks to lead Southwestern past Salamanca 11-1 in Division 1 action at Packard Field.
The Trojans (5-3, 5-2) had just six hits in the game. Gavin Anderson, Reece Card and Wilson Genareo each had a double. Anderson drove in three runs and Wilson Genareo drove in two.
Payton Bradley and Nolan Seeley each singled for the Warriors (6-7, 1-6).
