Cosme stymies Salamanca with gem

DUNKIRK – Anthony Cosme threw a one-hitter with 17 strikeouts to lead Dunkirk past Salamanca 8-1 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 baseball Saturday.

Aries Cheverez went 3 for 4 and Anthony Piede went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Marauders (10-5, 7-5), who totaled 10 hits in the game.

Ethan Baxter-Drain had the lone hits for the Warriors (9-10, 2-10) and drove in their only run.

AUSTIN SHINES ON MOUND

GOWANDA – Kyan Austin threw five innings of two-hit shutout ball with five strikeouts to lead Gowanda past Cattaraugus-Little Valley 7-3 in Division 3 action.

Drew Kota and Seth Geiger each went 2 for 3 while Tristin Luther went 2 for 2 for the Panthers (14-3, 14-0).

Theron Crawford had two hits for the Timberwolves (0-14, 0-12) and Trenton Wulf doubled.

BECKSTROM TOSSES GEM

SOUTH DAYTON – Drake Beckstrom tossed a six-inning one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and no walks to lead Frewsburg to a 12-0 shutout of Pine Valley in Division 2 play.

Gavin Weaver went 3 for 5 with a double and three runs scored to lead the Bears (5-9, 5-7) on offense. Chase Lombardo walked three times and scored twice while Beckstrom added a double and two walks.

Howard had the lone hit for the Panthers (2-13, 1-10) with a fifth-inning single.

RAMBACHER HAS KEY HIT

LAKEWOOD – Michael Rambacher broke a 1-1 tie with a two-run single during the sixth inning to lead Southwestern past Silver Creek/Forestville 4-1 in Division 1 action at Packard Field.

Wilson Genareo singled and scored on George Marshall’s RBI single in the first inning for the Trojans (9-3, 9-2). Oliver Stump added an RBI groundout in the sixth.

Wilson Genareo threw six innings of two-hit ball with 10 strikeouts and a walk on the mound for Southwestern. The run he allowed was unearned. Lucas Genareo picked up the save with a strikeout and two groundouts in the seventh.

Manny Sanchez and Damon Bell singled for the Black Knights (8-7, 6-6). Ryan Skinner drove in their lone run. Cody Neubauer took the loss, allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out five.

RED & GREEN TOP FREDONIA

JAMESTOWN — Alex Alvira allowed three hits and one run while striking out six and walking three in five innings as Jamestown beat Fredonia 6-2 in nonleague play at Diethrick Park on Saturday.

Carter Rizzuto got the final six outs on the mound for the Red & Green (5-11), allowing a hit and a run while walking two and striking out two.

Jamestown went ahead 3-0 in the top of the first inning. Rizzuto walked and scored on a wild pitch while Julian Jackson and Chase Bonta scored on a Ryan Engquist two-run single.

Jackson finished with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored while Alaric Richards also singled and drove in a run.

For the Hillbillies (7-8), Matt Cowan had two hits and scored a run while Gavin Piazza added a single and a run scored. Pauly Tabone and Colin Luce combined on a six-hitter with one strikeout and six walks.
