SALAMANCA — The weekend forecast moved all of the field events in the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Championships to Friday at Salamanca High School, giving many of the athletes an extended weekend.
Southwestern’s Mikayla Johnson and Tyler McIntyre both can relax today as double winners, sweeping the throwing events on Day 1 of the CCAAs.
Johnson won both the girls shot put (40-5.75) and discus (126-10), while McIntyre claimed the boys shot put (47-5.25) and discus (164-10) with both cracking New York Top 25 throws in the events.
Falconer/Cassadaga Valley senior Max Parmentier also proved a double winner in the pole vault (11-0) and high jump (6-0). Dunkirk senior Malik McCall also reached 6 feet in the high jump, but placed second for the Marauders.
Dunkirk did manage to win a CCAA title in the jumping pits as senior Yeriel Gutierrez reached a distance of 19-10.5 to claim the title, besting Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton’s Michael Horvath by 5 inches.

Horvath did not leave empty handed as he managed to win the triple jump with a personal-best distance of 42-5.
Falconer/Cassadaga Valley senior Mary Lundmark finishes the pole vault sweep for the Golden Cougars as she outdid the competition reaching 10-10, over 2 feet better than second place.
Fredonia sophomore Alyse Bugaj claimed the triple jump (33-10.5), Gowanda junior Isabella DeGolier won the high jump (5-0) and Olean senior Jabre-yah Brown took the long jump title (15-6.5) to round out the field events.
A pair of distance finals were run on Day 1, including Meredith Lendt posting a personal-best time in the 800 meters at 2:28.42. Maple Grove senior Ethan Verbosky won the boys 800 with a time of 1:54.37, finishing over 4 seconds before teammate Ty Kraft in second.
Clymer/Sherman/Panama seventh-grader Savannah Whitney won the 3,000 in 11:00.59, beating Lendt by nearly a second. Allegany-Limestone junior Nolan Wilczewski claimed the 3,200 crown in 10:19.64.

The remaining track events will be completed this morning starting at 10 with the 3,200-meter relays.
