Falconer, Brocton/Cassadaga Valley post baseball wins
JAMESTOWN — Falconer found Diethrick Park to its liking Friday, sweeping Ellicottville in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 3 doubleheader 6-4 and 8-1.
In the first game, the Golden Falcons trailed 3-2 after six innings, but pushed across four runs in the top of the seventh and Liam Sharpe, who pitched five innings in relief, didn’t allow an earned run.
Erik Stenstrom led Falconer’s offensive attack with two hits and two RBIs. Logan Johnson and Conner Brentley drove in a run apiece.
For the Eagles, Carson Mendell collected two hits and drove in three runs in support of losing pitcher Rylan Benjamin, who tossed a complete game and surrendered two earned runs.
In the nightcap, Rhinehart worked into the sixth inning and didn’t allow an earned run and struck out six, although he walked seven. Griffin Knopp, who collected two hits, including a double, and Chase Bianco, who also had two hits, got the final four outs to help the Golden Falcons improve to 11-3 overall and 11-3 in the division. Austin Ribaudo and Chase Fuller chipped in a single apiece and drove in three and two runs respectively.
Mendell had both hits for Ellicottville (10-7, 7-7).
BULLDOGS KNOCK OFF RED DRAGONS
BROCTON — Anthony Gatto scattered eight hits, struck out seven and didn’t issue a walk to highlight Brocton/Cassadaga Valley’s 7-2 Division 2 victory over Maple Grove.
Allen Blattenberger (double) collected three hits and drove in two runs; Jackson Crowell (double) added two hits and two RBIs; and Owen Pryll (double) also knocked in a pair as the Bulldogs improved to 8-6 overall and 7-4 in the division.
Will Bryant had two hits, and Gavin Darr and Kyle Yohe both smacked doubles for the Red Dragons (9-5, 8-3).
