Harrington, Draggett shine as Fredonia softball rolls Dunkirk
FREDONIA — Seventh-grader Kara Harrington was up to the task in her first foray into the Fredonia-Dunkirk rivalry, leading the Hillbillies from the circle for an impressive 12-0 Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 softball victory on Friday night.
Harrington gave up just two hits in six innings of work, striking out 15 batters on her way to victory.
After scoring three runs in the first inning, Fredonia (8-2, 7-2) waited until the fifth and sixth to explode offensively and end the game early. Callie Draggett put a stamp on that charge in what became a walk-off grand slam in the sixth inning and ended her day 2 for 3 with a double, three runs scored and 4 RBIs.
Jenna Fryberger added a double and a triple while going 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and two runs scored and McKenna Crawford had a pair of singles.
Dunkirk (3-9, 1-6) had one single each from Ryleigh Donato and Gracie Grann, while Grann also took the loss in the circle.
FALCONER ROLLS
FALCONER — Emily Zaranek drilled a home run and Nylah Sharpe added three hits to lead Falconer to a 12-0 Division 4 softball victory over Cattaraugus-Little Valley.
Emily Rhinehart, Khloe Livengood and Giada Schauman all had two hits for the Golden Falcons (11-1, 7-1) in support of the pitching duo of Rhinehart (11 strikeouts, zero walks) and Payton Smith, who combined on a three-hitter.
Quincy Whitmore had two hits, including a double for the Timberwolves (0-9, 0-7).
CARDS SWEEP BROCTON
RANDOLPH — Randolph swept a softball twin bill against Brocton, posting 8-3 and 6-5 five-inning wins in Division 3 action.
In the first game, Elenza Bryan collected three hits and Aryana Sears added two to support the pitching of Hannah Hill and Grace Arnold-Hill, who combined on a five-hitter and struck out 10. Arnold-Hill also had a double.
Paige Miller collected three hits, including a home run, for the Bulldogs.
In the second game, the Cardinals (5-6, 4-5) scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to break a 5-5 tie.
Mallory Smallback (double) and Sears both had two hits in support of Arnold and Hill, who combined for eight strikeouts and three walks.
For the Bulldogs (1-10, 0-7), Sha’Nah Adams (double) collected three hits and Miyah Collins also had a double.
HORNETS UPEND NC
NORTH COLLINS — Forestville improved to 8-1 overall and 7-0 in Division 3 following a 14-4 win over North Collins.
Carilene Sliwa finished with two hits, including a home run, and Olivia Valentine added a single and a double. Ava Schwerk also had a two-bagger for the Hornets, who snapped a 2-2 tie with five runs in the third inning and six more in the fourth to support winning pitcher Alexandra Kerstetter.
Ciara Stevens had two hits and Mya Tanis added a double and two RBIs for North Collins (5-9, 2-7).
RED DRAGONS PREVAIL
SINCLAIRVILLE — Winning pitcher Meg Ryan helped her own cause with three hits, including a triple, and drove in a pair of runs to lead Maple Grove to a 12-8 victory in the completion of a suspended Division 2 game.
Bryanna Cornell and Adarah Egan chipped in two hits apiece for the Red Dragons (6-5, 5-3).
For the Cougars (0-8, 0-8), Anna Burlingame smacked two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs; Faith McVey added a home run, a triple and two RBIs, and Krystyn McVey chipped in a single and triple. Chelsea Johnson and Catie Russell shared the pitching duties.
BODAMER PACES WOLFPACK
CLYMER — Elli Bodamer did it all for Clymer on Friday.
At the plate, she belted two three-run home runs in consecutive at-bats and then helped her own cause with 10 strikeouts in the circle to lead the Pirates to a 14-6 victory over Frewsburg in a Division 2 game.
Addie Wiggers added (double) three hits and Taylor Pinzok (double, two RBIs) collected two for the Pirates (8-1, 7-1).
For Frewsburg (1-10, 1-7), Mya Carmen had two hits and Presleigh Stelmack added a double.
