Wintersteen, Hoffman qualify for states

COLLINS — High school golfers are lucky if they get to participate in the state championships once during their careers.
Jocelyn Wintersteen has a chance to qualify five times.
The Cassadaga Valley junior secured her fourth trip to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships with a first-place showing in the Section VI state qualifier Monday at Gowanda Country Club.
Wintersteen shot a 76 to lead the field by three shots.
Cattaraugus-Little Valley senior Emmagiulia Barcellini shot an 83 to finish third.

Fredonia senior Sydnee Hoffman is going to cap off her Hillbillies career with her first trip to the state tournament June 7-8 at Wildwood Country Club in Rush after just missing out as the alternate last year. Hoffman shot a 90 on Monday to finish sixth.
Other Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association golfers in Monday’s qualifier included: Falconer’s Lauren Yagger (109), Southwestern’s Elise Kartesz (112), Olean’s Molly Burnett (114), Falconer’s Avery Yagger (120), Fredonia’s Gianna Novelli (120) and Cassadaga Valley’s Brandi Meder (133).
Orchard Park freshman Claire Brady was second (79), Clarence junior Tatiana Tutko and Orchard Park junior Eliana Wierzbowski tied for fourth (89), Amherst senior Autumn Bailey was seventh (91), Kenmore East junior Kiley Burke was eighth (93) and Orchard Park sophomore Charlotte Occhino was ninth (94).
