Hodkin, Fredonia softball blank Trojans

FREDONIA — McKella Hodkin threw a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts and one walk to lead Fredonia past Southwestern 6-0 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 softball Wednesday.

The Hillbillies (11-3, 10-2) broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third when Delaney Artrip led off with a single, stole second and stole third before scoring on a throwing error.

In the fourth, Fredonia’s Callie Draggett reached on a dropped third strike, stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on McKenna Crawford’s RBI groundout.

Gia Muscarella singled and scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to make it 3-0.

Jenna Fryberger reached on an error and scored on a passed ball in the sixth and Crawford later hit an RBI single to score Draggett. The final run scored when Alanna Delcamp reached on an error and Crawford scored on the play.

Madi Burnett tossed a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts and one walk for the Trojans (6-9, 5-6). Arianna Silakowski had their lone hit.

GOWANDA JUMPS AHEAD EARLY

FREDONIA — Gowanda scored five runs in the top of the first inning and beat Silver Creek 7-3 in Division 3 play at Fredonia State University.

Addison Kota led off with a walk and Sophie Bobseine was hit by a pitch with one out before Jenna Luther gave the Panthers (9-6, 7-3) a 1-0 lead with an RBI single. Alayna Fish then singled to load the bases ahead of Haleigh Miller’s RBI groundout. Bella Maines followed with a two-run single and later scored on an error.

Kota walked again the second inning and Corrina John singled before Luther reached on a two-out error to score Kota and John scored on a wild pitch.

Armed with a 7-0 lead, Kota did the rest in the circle, tossing a complete-game three-hitter with 11 strikeouts. None of the three runs she allowed were earned and she walked two.

For the Black Knights (7-3, 6-2), Rylee Weiskerger struck out eight in three innings of relief. Maddy Blair, Priya Sakpal and A Warrior each had a hit with Sakpal driving in two runs.

GATORS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ERRORS

DUNKIRK — Riley Sudbrook and Peyton Truman each had two of Allegany-Limestone’s nine hits in a 14-2 Division 1 win over Dunkirk.

Chloe Sutton took the loss in the circle for the Marauders (3-12, 1-8), but just one of the 14 runs she allowed was earned as the team committed six errors.

Gracie Grann doubled and Gracey Kozlowski singled for Dunkirk’s only hits.

The Gators improved to 11-2 overall and 10-1 in the league to clinch at least a share of the division title. They are scheduled to finish their league season Friday at home against Olean.

RHINEHART RECORDS 400TH STRIKEOUT

ALLEGANY — Emily Rhinehart threw a three-hitter with 15 strikeouts, in the process recording the 400th strikeout of her career, as Falconer beat Franklinville 6-2 in Division 4 action.

Nylah Sharpe led the Golden Falcons (13-2, 8-2) offensively, going 3 for 4 with a double, a triple and two runs scored. Emily Zaranek went 2 for 4 with a triple, two RBIs and a run scored while Mylie Zaranek also singled, drove in a run and scored a run.

Kaelyann Graves-Decker and Taylor Chase each doubled while Grace Cornell singled for the Panthers (7-4, 5-4).

TUESDAY

TROJANS COMPLETE WIN OVER DUNKIRK

WEST ELLICOTT — Southwestern scored six runs in its final two plate appearances to rally past Dunkirk 10-7 in the resumption of a suspended Division 1 game Tuesday.

Katelyn Casel went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored; Arianna Silakowski was 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored; and Madi Burnett went 2 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored for the Trojans. Silakowski struck out eight over the first six innings before Burnett struck out the side in the seventh.

For the Marauders, Chelsey Tramuto went 2 for 3 with a home run and two runs scored; Eliza Bautista Chavez was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored; Ryleigh Donato went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored; and Camryn Krzanowicz and Maria Dolce added doubles.

ELLICOTTVILLE DOUBLES UP PORTVILLE

ELLICOTTVILLE — Katie Lafferty went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs as Ellicottville beat Portville 4-2 in Division 4 play.

Ande Northrup went 3 for 4 and scored twice for the Eagles (12-2, 9-1) while Lafferty scattered four hits and struck out eight in the circle.

Madison Ford and Sienna Schoonover each had a pair of hits for the Panthers (6-6, 3-6) while Ella Warters struck out seven to eclipse the 100-strikeout mark for the season.
