Gowanda's Capozzi named Pitcher of the Year in CCAA D3

OBSERVER File Photo Gowanda's Carter Capozzi was named the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 3 baseball Pitcher of the Year.

There was not a more dominant hitter in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 3 baseball this season than Falconer’s Erik Stenstrom.

With that in mind, the league’s coaches have named him the Player of the Year.

In 14 league games, the junior catcher/pitcher hit .537 with 14 extra-base hits, including three home runs. His offensive stats played out to a 1.710 on base-plus-slugging percentage.

Gowanda senior Carter Capozzi was named the league’s Pitcher of the Year after leading the Panthers to a perfect 14-0 league mark and the division title. Capozzi went 4-0 with a 1.15 earned run average while striking out 38 batters in 30 1-3 innings on the mound.

Stenstrom was joined on the league’s First Team by a pair of teammates: senior Logan Johnson and sophomore Isaiah Washington. Johnson hit .295 with 15 runs batted in while Washington hit .292 with 17 runs scored and a .946 fielding percentage.

Capozzi was joined on the First Team by three teammates: senior Seth Geiger, junior Drew Kota and sophomore Aiden Geiger. Seth Geiger hit .308 with 15 runs scored and a .500 on base percentage; Kota hit .317 with three doubles and two triples while driving in 14 runs and scoring 19; and Aiden Geiger hit .480 with five doubles and three triples while driving in 21 runs and scoring 17.

Third-place Randolph had a pair of players on the First Team in senior Bryson Pitts and junior Randall Nottingham. Pitts hit .473 with four doubles while driving in 16 runs and scoring 19 while Nottingham hit .403 with 11 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

Fourth-place Ellicottville was represented by pitcher Rylan Benjamin on the First Team. The junior went 3-3 with a 1.21 ERA while striking out 57 batters in 40 2-3 innings on the mound.

Portville had a pair of seniors named to the First Team in Aidan DeFazio and Dylan Chudy. DeFazio hit .298 with 14 RBIs and 17 runs scored while Chudy hit .385 with 10 RBIs and 15 runs scored.
