JAMESTOWN — Jamestown’s struggles at home continued Thursday night.
Batavia pounded out 20 hits and scored in every inning but one en route to a 15-5 seven-inning victory over the Tarp Skunks.
The win raised the Muckdogs’ record to 13-5, one game in front of Jamestown (12-6), which has only one four of nine games at Diethrick Park in the first month of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League season.
Leading the way offensively for Batavia were Cooper Russell with four hits and three RBIs; Glenn Brooks (triple, two RBIs), James Quintero (three doubles, three RBIs) and Joey Socorro (double) with three apiece; and Evan Brock (double) with two. Mason Davey and Myles Monell both added doubles.
Leading 4-3 after three innings, the Muckdogs took advantage of the Tarp Skunks’ shaky defense in the top of the fourth to push across six runs, highlighted by a two-run single by Russell, an RBI double double by Quintero, a run-scoring single by Brooks and sacrifice flies by Brock and Monell.
Armed with a 10-3 advantage, Batavia coasted from there, tacking on four more runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh.
For Jamestown, Eric Weeks, Heath Fetchik and Branston Lindquist (double) all had two hits, and Paul Dulanto, CJ Dugan and Jackson Enders collected doubles. One of Fetchik’s hits was a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning that cleared the wall in deep left-center field.
Gavin Chandler (4-0), one of three Muckdogs’ pitchers, was the winner, working into the sixth inning. Tarp Skunks’ starter Tait Johnson, one of five hurlers for the hosts, took the loss.
After a day off today, Jamestown will be back in action at 6:30 p.m. Saturday when it entertains Niagara Falls.
