Tarp Skunks beat Niagara 2-1
ST. CATHARINES, Ontario — Jamestown’s fast start to its Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League season continued Friday night.
Behind the combined four-hit pitching of Tait Johnson, Cohen Harris and Chase Beran, the Tarp Skunks edged Niagara 2-1 before 205 fans.
Blake Herman collected two hits, including a double, and stole a base to lead Jamestown’s offensive attack. Meanwhile, Johnson, the winning pitcher, worked five five innings, surrendered a run and two hits, walked two and struck out two. Harris hurled three shutout innings and Chase Bearn struck out the side in the ninth to record his first save.
Trailing 1-0 after the first inning, the Tarp Skunks scored a run in the second inning on an error and then added the game’s final run in the fourth when Jackson Enders scored on a passed ball.
Losing pitcher Owen Newman (0-1) and relievers Seth Morrison and Jordan Sfyndilis combined on a seven-hitter for the Ironbacks (1-1). They struck out six and walked two. Anderson Fenwick’s RBI groundout accounted for Niagara’s lone run. Teammate Josh Bushen smacked a double. The Ironbacks are
