Tarp Skunks best Batavia in extras

BATAVIA — Branston Lindquist’s sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th inning scored Tito Kiefer with the go-ahead run as Jamestown posted a 7-6 come-from-behind victory over Batavia in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League action Wednesday night at Dwyer Stadium.

The win raised the Tarp Skunks’ record to 3-1, while the Muckdogs dropped to 2-2.

Chase Beran, one of five Jamestown pitchers, earned the victory. In three innings of hitless relief, he struck out six and walked just one before 2,991 spectators.

Batavia led 3-2 after the first inning and 5-3 after three, but the Tarp Skunks tallied two runs in the fourth to tie the game. The Muckdogs took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth, an advantage they held until the top of the ninth when Jamestown scored an unearned run on Eric Weeks’ fielder’s choice RBI.

Jackson Enders led the Tarp Skunks with two hits, and Grant Moore, Caleb Jordan, Weeks and Lindquist all drove in a run. Although Batavia recorded 12 strikeouts, its defense committed five errors, which led to four unearned runs.

Tarp Skunks starter Ryan Tatar worked into the third inning and surrendered three earned runs. Relievers Camp Churchill, Jack Santi and Bergan combined for eight strikeouts and yielded just two hits between them.

Luke Rybczynski collected two hits and drove in two runs; Evan Brock collected a double and had two RBIs; and Jalen David smacked a triple to pace Batavia’s offense.

Jamestown will be back in action tonight when they travel to Newark.
