Tarp Skunks reach 10 wins

Jamestown beats Niagara 7-3 on Saturday

JAMESTOWN — The Tarp Skunks became the first team in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League to reach 10 wins when they defeated Niagara 7-3 before 1,815 fans at Diethrick Park on Saturday.

Jamestown collected 10 hits, including six for extra bases, to support outstanding relief work by winning pitcher Santino Musone (4-0) and Collin Pence (first save). Together, they combined to hurl six shutout innings, strike out five and walk two.

The Ironbacks scored three runs in the top of the first inning off Tarp Skunks starter Ryan Tatar, but they didn’t score again. Meanwhile, Jamestown tallied a run in the second inning and took the lead for good with a four-run sixth. Highlighting that rally was a two-run home run by Paul Dulanto. Armed with a 5-3 lead, the Tarp Skunks added some insurance with two runs in the eighth to raise their record to 10-2.

Blake Herman (triple) and Heath Fetchik both had two hits; Caleb Jordan drove in three runs; and Herman knocked in a pair for Jamestown, which also stole 11 bases.

Cooper Martin and Michael Gregus both collected two hits for Niagara.

Sunday’s scheduled doubleheader against Elmira was postponed due to weather. Jamestown will travel to Newark for a 6:30 p.m. first pitch Tuesday before returning home to take on Olean on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Starting at $4.00/week.
