Tarp Skunks top Red Wings 8-5

GENEVA — Jamestown is finding the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League season to its liking so far in 2026.

Behind eight shutout innings by two Tarp Skunks pitchers and a pair of hits by Tito Kiefer, Jamestown defeated Geneva 8-5 on Friday at McDonough Park.

The win raised the Tarp Skunks’ record to 9-2, while the Red Wings dropped to 1-6.

Scoreless through two complete innings, Jamestown tallied a run in each of the third, fourth and sixth innings, and broke the game open with two runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth. Armed with an 8-0 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth, the Tarp Skunks survived a five-run Geneva rally to win for the ninth time in 11 games.

Winning pitcher Jack Castillo and reliever Camp Churchill worked four innings apiece and yielded no runs and just three hits. Castillo struck out eight and walked a pair. Churchill struck out two and walked two.

Kiefer, Caleb Jordan and Nate Muncy drove in a run apiece to pace Jamestown’s offense.

The Tarp Skunks return to action at 6:30 tonight when they entertain Niagara at Diethrick Park.

EX-TARP SKUNK KORN POSTS CWS WIN

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Tyrus Hall hit the tiebreaking single in the eighth inning, Ian Korn held Troy to one run in his longest relief appearance of the season, and West Virginia beat the Trojans 7-5 Friday in a meeting of teams making their first appearances in the College World Series.

Hall hit a two-run double in the second inning and came up in the eighth with two runners on against Zach Crotchfelt. With the infield pulled in, Hall chopped the ball over first base for a two-run lead.

Korn, the Division II pitcher of the year at Seton Hill last year and a former Jamestown Tarp Skunk, steadied the Mountaineers after Troy knocked out Chansen Cole in the third inning. Korn (6-1) went six innings and allowed two hits, including Jimmy Janicki’s tying home run in the seventh.
