The 12th annual Marauder Trotter 5K Run/Walk, hosted by the Dunkirk High School Class of 1989 for the last time and a part of the Chautauqua Striders Runner of the Year Series, was held this past Saturday at Wright Park with a crowd of over 400 people.

The event was in memoriam to the Class of ’89’s deceased classmates Paula Kuschel, Jennifer Styborski, Jody Wdowiasz, Michael Koch, Robert Pierce, James Kulpa, Susan Butts, Elizabeth Barnes, Tony Quiles, Susan Stoyle (Gorka), Scott Roesler, Todd Iskra, Paul Szach, Joe Pieszak, John Gizowski, Tammy Crawford, Corey Marshall, Jodie Wickham (Santiago), David Lukasik, Tom Wickham, Gloria Fred, Blanca Nieves, Conley Coleman, Gilberto Rosas, Magdalena Hazelton, James Jaffray, Kevin Kuzdzal and Kevin Wasmund.

With 180 finishers timed by Race Management Solutions Inc., the pre-race announcements from D.J. Wilson, race director, and Scott Mekus, event manager, included handing off the Marauder Trotter event to the Stride Society of Dunkirk managed by Gabby Hart, Jericha Petrella and Devin Eddy.

“For the last 12 years, I have had the honor to be the race director for the Marauder Trotter 5K — a title that was and is a great honor,” Wilson said. “Today was the last time I am able to put on my race director hat. While I am ready to move on to the next challenge in my life, I am so extremely grateful for my classmates to put their trust in me and very proud of the work we have done over the years.”

The Stride Society started in June 2025 as a way to bring the running community in the local area together. The group runs once a week and has a mix of runners and walkers of all paces and ages, and even some furry friends. Their goal is to always be community driven through service and fund raisers in order to give back as a group.
