Three Hillbillies receive high praise

Four local girls have received their final -- and highest -- honors for this past spring's high school flag football season.
Fredonia's Megan Ivory, Emma Perry and Nora Polhamus as well as Jamestown's JaLeiya Glover were named to the New York State Sportswriters Association's second annual all-state teams Friday.
Ivory, a freshman, was named to the Class C second-team defense. She led the Hillbillies with 102 flag pulls, including 60 for a loss, to go along with 39 sacks and 10 passes defended. Offensively, Ivory caught 31 passes for 385 yards and four touchdowns to go along with five carries for 41 yards and a score.
Perry, a junior, was named to the Class C third-team offense. She led the Hillbillies with 194 rushes for 1,721 yards and 26 touchdowns to go along with 11 catches for 80 yards and two scores. Defensively, Perry had 61 flag pulls, including three for a loss, and defended 15 passes.
Polhamus, a freshman, was named to the Class C third-team defense. She tied for first on the Hillbillies with six interceptions while returning two of them for touchdowns. Polhamus defended 27 passes and had 59 flag pulls. Offensively, she caught 32 passes for 471 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Glover, a sophomore, was named to the Class A sixth-team defense. She led the Red & Green with 58 flag pulls, including five for a loss, intercepted a pass and defended 11 passes.
Pioneer junior Ellie Edwards was named the Class C Player of the Year for the second straight year. She went 187 of 294 through the air for 2,041 yards and 51 touchdowns with just four interceptions. On the ground, Edwards ran 207 times for 1,407 yards and 25 touchdowns.
Pioneer senior Jayden Leederman was named to the Class C first-team offense. She ran 224 times for 1,760 yards and 21 touchdowns while also catching 48 passes for 59 yards and six scores.
Pioneer senior Lilly Kless was named to the Class C first-team defense. She led the Panthers with 44 tackles for a loss, including 20 sacks, and had 101 total flag pulls while defending four passes.
Pioneer senior Abigail Mason was named to the Class C second-team defense, Iroquois senior Olivia Spanitz was named to the Class C third-team offense, Pioneer junior Aiden Watson was named to the Class C third-team defense, and Depew seniors Jordan Cleveland and Olivia Leazott were named to the Class C fourth-team defense.
In Class A, Lockport freshman Jamiela-Khai Johnson was named to the first-team offense while Lancaster junior Addyson Gizzi was named to the first-team defense. Orchard Park senior Maggie Gocella was named to the second-team offense, Hutch Tech senior Shea Weeden was named to the third-team defense, Lancaster junior Jenna Gwitt and Kenmore junior Kenadi Bonner were named to the fifth-team offense, Kenmore sophomore Samantha Ferreri was named to the sixth-team offense and Orchard Park senior was an honorable-mention selection.
In Class B, Clarence senior Olivia Bell and Williamsville South senior Tessa Petri were named to the first-team offense while Clarence sophomore Marissa Blonski was named to the first-team defense. Clarence sophomore Ellie LaDelfa was named to the second-team offense and Grand Island junior Camryn Bagley was named to the second-team defense. Clarence senior Breanna Hurley was named to the third-team offense and Williamsville South senior Millie Schaefer was named to the third-team defense. Clarence senior Mackenzie Truman and Williamsville South eighth-grader Josephine Lester were named to the fourth-team defense. Williamsville East senior Sarah Delisanti received fifth-team defense recognition. Cardinal O'Hara sophomore De'Lina Hayes, Mt. Mercy junior Brailey Zimmer and Cardinal O'Hara freshman McKala McGovern received honorable mention.
Section XI's Half Hollow Hills senior Samantha Heyman was named the Class A Player of the Year for the second straight year and Section VIII MacArthur junior Gina Iannuzzi was named the Class B Player of the Year.
