OLEAN -- The Batavia Muckdogs clinched the West Division in convincing fashion while the Jamestown Tarp Skunks struggled to another loss at Bradner Stadium on Friday.
Batavia no-hit the Newark Pilots in a 17-0 seven-inning victory at Colburn Park to improve to 28-10-1 with one game remaining in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League regular season.
Meanwhile, in Olean, Jamestown managed just three hits in a 13-3 seven-inning loss to the Oilers to fall to 24-11-2.
Olean took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning off Tarp Skunks starting pitcher Joseph Santos. Derek Staudt's leadoff double and Cooper Tarlie's three-run home run keyed the four-run uprising.
Jamestown scored all three of its runs in the top of the third inning. CJ Dugan led off with a walk, Grant Moore was hit by a pitch, and after an out, Nolan Smith was also hit by a pitch to load the bases. Anthony Trommer then hit a two-run double and Dom Costello hit an RBI groundout before a flyout ended the frame.
But Olean got a run back in the bottom of the third and then pulled away with a six-run fourth inning. The Oilers plated their final two runs in the sixth.
Chris Laeita started for Olean, allowing three runs on two hits and two walks while striking out four. Reliever Mark Holm earned the win, allowing one hit while striking out eight in four innings.
Santos allowed four runs on three hits and two walks while striking out one in two innings for Jamestown. Ryan Tatar got five outs, allowing five runs on two hits, including a Christo Hunsicker home run, and walked two while striking out one. Jack Santi and Chase Beran got the final seven outs for the Tarp Skunks, combining for two strikeouts while allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk.
Staudt had three hits, including two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored; Aidan Willard had two hits, an RBI and a run scored; and Hunsicker drove in three runs for Olean.
Jamestown will host the Geneva Red Wings in its final regular-season game of the season at 6:30 p.m. today at Diethrick Park. The Tarp Skunks are locked in to the West Division's No. 2 seed and will host the West Division's No. 3 seed Monday at Diethrick Park.
