Calph shoots 84 at Rose Brook GC

IRVING -- The Wednesday Travel League played a cool, windy, links-style round at Rose Brook Golf Club. Robert Calph shot 84 to eke out the win, with the trio of Dave Wallace, Joe Michalski and Jeff Nelson just a stroke behind with 85s.

The victory was Calph ‘s 75th tour win, second-most all-time. With golfers starting on the back nine, Calph took the early lead at the turn with a 39. Michalski and John Waterman led the front nine with 40s.

In the B Flight, Ron Szach was the winner after a tiebreaker with Tom Destro. The low round by a senior was shot by Jim Ellman Sr. The winner of the Bruce "Java" Chrabasz Commissioner's Award was Brady Hilliker.

Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight -- Nelson (No. 6), Michalski (No. 7), Wallace (No. 11), Calph (No. 16), Pete Pinkoski (No. 17) and Ellman (No. 18); B Flight -- Szach (No. 2), Destro (Nos. 3 and 9), Dave Franklin (Nos. 5 and 13) and Don Kujawa (No. 11).

Closest to the pin were: Wallace (Nos. 4 and 12), Waterman (No. 10) and Calph (No. 16). Winners of the Steeplechase were: Calph in the A Flight and Jaime Galarza in the B Flight.

Top point winners were: Calph (38), Wallace (26), and Szach and Franklin (14 apiece). Season points leaders (through 12 events): 1. Josh Hilliker (327), 2. Tom Sacilowski (223), 3. Nelson (160), 4. Franklin (138), 5. Jeff Marsowicz (126), 6. Phil Hopkins and Ed Tofil (124 apiece), 8. Wallace (109), 9. Pinkoski (107) and 10. Bob Kujawa (99).

This week the league makes its annual overnight trip to Boardman, Ohio. On Tuesday, they will play the Links at Firestone Farms. On Wednesday, they will play Reserve Run. All spots are filled. Golfers participating will be sent an email detailing the trip. On the following Wednesday, Aug. 5, the League will play Cardinal Hills GC in Randolph. Golfers can sign up now for that event.
