CCAA names T&F all-stars

Plenty of the best track athletes in Section VI came from the local area this season and many competed in the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association. Shortly after the league’s championship meet at Salamanca High School in late May, the best athletes from each of the teams were honored as the league’s all-stars and sportsmanship award winners from Divisions I, II and III.

DIVISION I

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley boasted the most all-stars among Division I teams with eight.

The Golden Cougars were represented by Mary Lundmark, Brynn Helms, Ellyson Baglia, Skyler Norlander, Max Parmentier, Marcus Parmentier, Patrick Braley and Reese McKay and Grant Zahm. Lundmark received the sportsmanship award.

At the CCAAs, Lundmark won the pole vault; Helms finished top eight in both triple jump and long jump; Baglia took second in shot put and eighth in discus; Norlander earned second in triple jump and sixth in long jump; Max and Marcus finished first and second, respectively, in pole vault; Braley earned third in discus; and McKay shined all season in the 110-meter high hurdles.

Fredonia earned seven all-star selections in Mariella Russo, Charis LaBarr, Alessandra Bugaj, Nathan Keefe, Trenton Krenzer, Jack Fagan and Alex Cramer. The Hillbillies received the Girls Team Sportsmanship Award while James Fagan and LaBarr received individual sportsmanship awards.

At the CCAAs, Russo finished fourth in the 400 hurdles and tied for eighth in high jump; LaBarr took sixth in the 400 dash; Bugaj won the triple jump and tied for fourth in the long jump; Keefe won the 110 hurdles and took fifth in the 400 hurdles; Krenzer placed second in the 3,200 and was sixth in the 1,600; Fagan placed sixth in the 3,200; and Cramer finished sixth in the 800.

Southwestern added six all-star selections with Mikayla Johnson, Marlana Cresanti, Tryniti Card, M’Kenzie Zavala, Leo Kavic and Tyler McIntyre. Lillian Weikel and Noah Brown received the sportsmanship awards.

At the CCAAs, Johnson won the discus and shot put; Cresanti placed third in the 400 and second in the high jump; Card took second in the 400; Weikel took fifth in the 800, fourth in the 1,500 and seventh in the 3,000; McIntyre won both the shot put and discus; and Kavic placed second in shot put and fourth in discus.

Dunkirk had five all-star picks with Chianti Lopez, Liam McQuiggan, Brady Dobek, Ryder Yerico and Jordan Thomas Smith. The Marauders earned the Boys Team Sportsmanship Award while Isiah Durling and Jazmin Bultron received individual selections.

At the CCAAs, Lopez took second in both the 100 and 200; McQuiggan placed third in the triple jump; Yerico placed fifth in the 200; and Thomas Smith placed fifth in the 100. Dobek shined throughout the season in the 400 hurdles.

Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton had five athletes named to the all-stars, including Michael Horvath, Lucas Horvath, Ian Kindermann, Meredith Lendt and Gracie Gerring. Lily Otto and Lucas Horvath earned sportsmanship awards.

At the CCAAs, Michael Horvath won the triple jump and took second in the long jump; Lucas Horvath placed fifth in the 800; Kindermann took fourth in both the 100 and 200; Lendt won the 800 and took second in both the 1,500 and 3,000; and Gerring took third in the high jump.

DIVISION II

Salamanca led the Division II teams with 10 overall all-star selections with Payton Bigler, Easton Chudy, Xazavier Escobar, Remy Follman, Taylor Hayes, Kylan Jacobson, Harper Ellis, Paloma Haas, Kaylin Lemon and Lailee Pierce honored. Arleigh Chudy and Jesse Hill were named sportsmanship award winners.

At the CCAAs, Bigler ran the 800 and 1,600; Easton Chudy took third in pole vault; Escobar won the 100 and 200, then took eighth in the long jump; Follman competed in the 200 and high jump; Hayes finished third in the 3,000 steeplechase and fifth in the 3,200; Jacobson finished fifth in the 110 hurdles and sixth in the 400 hurdles; Ellis placed sixth in the 400 hurdles; Haas competed in the discus and shot put; Lemon raced in the 800 and 1,500; and Pierce placed eighth in the Section VI Class C championship.

Cattaraugus-Little Valley received both Team Sportsmanship Awards while Quincey Whitmore and Grady Merrill were the Timberwolves’ individual recipients. The Timberwolves also had four all-stars with Bransen Gabel, Merrill, Talon Bramer and Rebekah Butcher.

At the CCAAs, Gabel took second in the 400 hurdles and sixth in the 110 hurdles; Merrill earned seventh in the 800; Bramer earned third in long jump and seventh in triple jump; and Butcher represented the Timberwolves in both the shot put and discus.

Franklinville/Ellicottville added two more all-stars with Grant Cornell and Eva Green. The Titans’ sportsmanship recipients were Ben Wedvik and Trinity Herman. Cornell finished second in the 3,000 steeplechase while Green took third in the 400 hurdles and seventh in the 100 hurdles.

DIVISION III

Clymer/Sherman/Panama earned the most all-stars of any CCAA team with 11, including Sawyer Whitney, Jacob Ferranto, Finn Fadale, Christopher Phelps, Talon Persons, Savannah Whitney, Finley Mitchell, Lillian Johnson, Riley Johnson, Grace Cooke and Bria Palmatier. The Wolfpack girls won the Team Sportsmanship Award, while Olivia Dellamora and Ferranto were individual recipients.

The Wolfpack shined at the CCAAs. Sawyer Whitney earned third in the 400 hurdles; Ferranto finished fourth in the 400; Fadale earned fourth in the 3,200 and seventh in the 1,600; Phelps took fourth in both the 800 and 1,600; Persons placed second in the triple jump, sixth in long jump and eighth in high jump; Savannah Whitney won both the 1,500 and 3,000; Mitchell took second in the 400 hurdles and eighth in high jump; Lily Johnson placed fifth in the triple jump; and Palmatier took third in the 2,000 steeplechase and seventh in the 800. Riley Johnson ran the 800 and 1,500 throughout the season, while Cooke participated in all of the distance events.

Silver Creek/Forestville had eight all-star selections with Sam Bowers, Nate Mays, Will Duliba, Ingrid Gibson, Chymerah Genovese, Molly Shaw, Leah Mays and Samantha Timmerman. Emma Golembieski and Lucas Nosbisch earned individual sportsmanship awards.

At the CCAAs, Duliba took second in the 100 and 400; Gibson earned second in discus and fourth in the shot put; Leah Mays placed second in the 800 and third in the 1,500; Genovese won the 100 and 200; and Shaw took fourth in the 100 hurdles. Nate Mays won the 110 hurdles and high jump at the Section VI Class C championship and placed third in shot put; Bowers won the 200, took second in the 400 and sixth in the 100 at Class C championships; Timmerman competed in the 100, 200 and 400 for the Black Knights throughout the season.

Maple Grove also had eight all-star selections with Sydney Simmons, Kylie Kress, Lily Elliss, Hayden Allen, Ethan Verbosky, Ty Kraft, Owen Erlandson and Ty Oste. Logan Quattrone and Rylie Allen earned sportsmanship awards while the boys received the Team Sportsmanship Award.

At the CCAAs, Simmons won the 100 hurdles and took sixth in pole vault; Elliss took fifth in the 2,000 steeplechase and sixth in the 3,000; Hayden Allen placed fourth in the 800 and seventh in the 1,500; Verbosky won the 800 and 1,600; Kraft finished second in both the 800 and 1,600; Erlandson placed ninth in the 800; and Oste won the 400. Kress ran the 100, 200 and 400 over the season for the Red Dragons.

Frewsburg had six all-star selections with Brea Rubrecht, Grace Gilevski, Josephine Vaughn, Noah Erickson, Henry Eckert and Lucas Randolph. Miranda Cortez Diaz and Torren Suruy earned sportsmanship awards.

At the CCAAs, Rubrecht took third in discus and fifth in the shot put; Gilevski took fourth in both the 2,000 steeplechase and 3,000 race; Vaughn earned fifth in the 400; Erickson won the 400 hurdles; Eckert competed in the shot put and Randolph in the 400.

Randolph added another five all-star selections with Cooper Freeman, Grady Huntington, Izaias Dowdy, Rhys Kelly and Serena Smith. Nathan Zink and Lucy Conley earned sportsmanship awards.

Freeman took third in the long jump and eighth in the triple jump; Huntington placed second in the discus; Dowdy claimed seventh in shot put; Kelly took third in the 3,200; and Smith won the 400 and placed fourth in the 200.

Gowanda rounded out the Division III all-stars with Reggie Irion and Isabella DeGolier. Maddox Hudson and Alivia Richter received sportsmanship awards. At the CCAAs, Irion took seventh in the 100 and eighth in both the 200 and 400. DeGolier won the high jump.
