FREDONIA — Kara Harrington tossed a four-inning one-hitter with eight strikeouts and Fredonia put the game away with a seven-run third inning en route to a 12-0 victory over Orchard Park in the New York State Section 1W 10-12 Little League softball tournament Thursday at the Fredonia Little League Complex.
Paired with a 2-1 win over Orchard Park on Wednesday, Fredonia swept the best-of-three series to clinch a spot in the state tournament, beginning Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Park in St. James on Long Island. The tournament could last through next Saturday.
Harrington struck out the side in order to start Thursday’s game before her team gave her the only three runs she would end up needing in the bottom of the first. Raelyn Korzeniewski walked, stole second and third, and scored on Callie Tramuta’s one-out RBI single to right field. After an error and a stolen base, Natalia Sebzda hit a two-out RBI single to right field and Adrianna Dimitri hit an RBI infield single.
Fredonia added two runs in the second inning. With two outs, Macy Skubis reached on an infield single and Korzeniewski was hit by a pitch before Avery Stellrecht’s infield single loaded the bases. Tramuta followed with a two-run single to right field to make it 5-0.
Fredonia scored its final seven runs in the third. Sebzda singled to right field and Dimitri reached on a bunt single ahead of Grace Sobotka’s RBI single. After a strikeout, Brooklyn Barter hit a two-run single to right field and Skubis singled to put runners at first and second. With two outs, Stellrecht hit a two-run single to center field, Tramuta hit an RBI double to center field and Harrington hit an RBI single to center field.

Thursday’s 12-0 win came on the heels of Wednesday’s 2-1 victory in Orchard Park. In that game, Harrington threw a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
Orchard Park took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, a lead that held up until Fredonia tied the game in the fifth. Harrington led off the frame with a single and Sebzda singled to center field. After a double steal, Sobotka reached on a one-out walk to load the bases. Orchard Park’s pitcher then picked up a strikeout for the second out of the inning, but Barter hit an RBI single to tie the game.
In Fredonia’s sixth, Korzeniewski led off with a walk and Stellrecht walked before Tramuta’s walk-off RBI single.
Fredonia is now 5-0 in tournament season after sweeping Dunkirk 2-0 in the District 38 tournament and beating Ellicottville/Cattaraugus-Little Valley 6-2 last Tuesday.
