Mayville, Fredonia improve to 2-0
WESTFIELD — Mayville took advantage of 13 walks by Westfield pitching and won 11-0 in five innings, despite having just three hits in the District 38 Area A 10-12 Little League All-Stars tournament Monday.
Charlie Machemer walked three times and scored three times while Cam Ward added a double, an RBI and two runs scored for Mayville (2-0). Ward and Karmelo Benedetto combined on a two-hitter with eight strikeouts.
Hunter Hauser doubled and Trey Jones singled for Westfield (0-3). Landon Tessmer and Hauser combined for eight strikeouts on the mound.
Mayville will host Hanover on Wednesday while Westfield will have its bye that night before visiting Dunkirk for its final pool-play game next Monday.
FREDONIA 14, HANOVER 2
SILVER CREEK — Trailing 2-1, Fredonia took control with a seven-run top of the third inning and beat Hanover 14-2 in six innings in Area A action.
Bruno Muscarella led Fredonia (2-0) with two hits, including a double, an RBI and three runs scored; Sebastian Cerrie had two hits, including a triple, two RBIs and a run scored; Rocco Bongiovanni and Carter Long had two hits apiece; and Colton Marsh and Tristan Darr doubled. On the mound, Dominic Carapella, Bongiovanni and Muscarella combined for eight strikeouts in a two-hitter.
For Hanover (1-2), Karter Johnson doubled and drove in a pair of runs. Brandon Hernandez added a single. Brantley Griewisch, Hernandez, Zachary Wicks and Declan Schauer combined for nine strikeouts on the mound.
Hanover will visit Mayville on Wednesday while Fredonia will host Dunkirk that same night.
FALCONER 12, VALLEY 0
GERRY — Lucas Arrance tossed a four-inning one-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk to lead Falconer past Valley 12-0 in Area B action.
Noah Nelson led the Falconer offense with two triples, three RBIs and two runs scored while Jayce Stewart and Ayden Faulkner each added a pair of hits and two runs scored. Owen Dickerson and Coby Brooks each drove in a pair of runs in the victory.
Darius Abram had the lone hit for Valley (0-3) with a second-inning single.
Falconer (2-0) will host Interstate on Wednesday while Valley has a bye that night and will travel to Gowanda next Monday for its final pool-play game.
Interstate (2-0) and Southwestern (1-0) were rained out in the other Area B game Monday and will play Thursday.
