Fredonia wins wild one over Frewsburg

FREDONIA — Fredonia scored at least two runs in every inning and broke an 11-11 tie with four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth to beat Frewsburg 19-14 in the District 38 8-10 All-Star tournament semifinals Thursday.

The win sends Fredonia into Tuesday’s final against Valley at 6 p.m. at Ellery Town Park.

Frewsburg opened the game with a three-run top of the first Thursday before Fredonia answered with seven runs in the bottom half of the inning and two more in the second to lead 9-3. After Frewsburg cut it to a three-run deficit, Fredonia regained a five-run lead, but Frewsburg tied the game with a five-run top of the fourth. That’s when Fredonia took control with four runs in each of its next two at-bats before withstanding Frewsburg’s three-run top of the sixth.

Jack Rudyk led Fredonia with two hits, including a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored; Charlie Proper had two hits, including a double, and four RBIs; Parker Gustafson had two hits, including a double, an RBI and a run scored; Dominik Betts had two hits and two runs scored; Bryce Potter had two hits, an RBI and three runs scored; Jackson Phillips tripled, drove in a run and scored a run; and William Galvez doubled, drove in two runs and scored three runs.

On the mound for Fredonia, Potter and Jacob Barter combined for six strikeouts while walking just two.

For Frewsburg, Ryan Butzer led the way with four hits and three runs scored; Easton Smith had three hits, including a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored; Bryken Stahlman had two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored; Troy Whippo had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored; Griffin Miller had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored; Jonathan Pezzulo had two hits, an RBI and a run scored; and Cameron Overbeck had two hits, an RBI and a run scored.

Smith, Miller and Overbeck combined for six strikeouts on the mound for Frewsburg.
