JAMESTOWN — The Jamestown Tarp Skunks waited until seemingly the last possible moments for a pair of dramatic walk-off wins Sunday in a Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League doubleheader at Diethrick Park.
In Game 1, after Jamestown’s bats were relatively silent through six innings, head coach Joe Reitebach turned to his bench for some reinforcements in the bottom of the seventh inning.
They came through in a big way.
Pinch-hitters Joaquin Rodriguez-Costa and Nate Muncy hit singles before Eric Weeks eventually hit the game-winning, walk-off two-run single as the Tarp Skunks rallied past the Auburn Doubledays for a 5-4 victory.
Trailing 4-1, Rodriguez-Costa, Caleb Jordan and Muncy hit consecutive singles to open the seventh and load the bases. After a flyout, Tito Kiefer drew a full-count walk to plate pinch-runner Jackson Enders with the first run of the inning. Grant Moore followed with an RBI groundout to make it 4-3 before Weeks’ single to shallow right field scored Muncy and pinch-runner Anthony Trommer with the tying and winning runs, respectively.

The comeback made a winner out of reliever Santino Musone (6-0), who pitched around a pair of walks with a strikeout in a scoreless top of the seventh for Jamestown.
Eli Bryant earned a no-decision for the Tarp Skunks. The right-hander threw six innings of four-run ball, allowing six hits and three walks while striking out three.
Joseph Williams suffered the loss for Auburn. The right-hander nearly finished a seven-inning complete game, but ended up allowing five runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out five.
Auburn took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Chase Moore’s RBI infield single and Justin Batts’ double play.
Jamestown got a run back in the bottom of the first as Dom Costello’s RBI single scored Weeks, who reached on a fielder’s choice.

The Doubledays went up 3-1 in the third on Ethan Smith’s RBI double and 4-1 in the fifth on Michael Ambroggio’s RBI groundout.
In Game 2, Auburn scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take an 8-7 lead before the Tarp Skunks pieced together a two-run bottom of the seventh for a 9-8 victory.
Weeks, the hero of Game 1, drew a one-out walk before Nolan Smith hit an RBI double to the right-center field gap to tie the game in the seventh. Trommer, who scored the game-winning run in Game 1 after pinch-running for Kiefer, pinch ran for Smith this time and scored the game-winning run on Muncy’s RBI single to left field that glanced off the Doubledays shortstop’s glove.
The Doubledays led 4-0 after the top of the second inning, but the Tarp Skunks answered with four runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. Muncy reached on an error before being thrown out at third on Heath Fetchik’s single to right field. That was followed by a two-run home run from Rodriguez-Costa, his first long ball of the season. After James Dixon and Kiefer walked, Grant Moore hit a two-run double to tie the game.
Auburn regained a 5-4 lead in the top of the third inning only to see Jamestown score the tying run in the bottom of the fourth when Jordan singled, stole second and third, and scored on Kiefer’s double-play ball.

The Tarp Skunks took a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. Weeks singled, stole second and third, and scored on Muncy’s RBI infield single. After Muncy stole second, he scored on Rodriguez-Costa’s two-out double.
But three walks, two singles and an error allowed the Doubledays to retake the lead in the top of the sixth and they retired Jamestown in order in its final two at-bats to hold on for the doubleheader split.
Tait Johnson started, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four for the Tarp Skunks. Joseph Santos threw the next three innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out three. Jack Santi allowed a one-out single in a scoreless seventh.
William Baker III allowed nine runs on 10 hits and five walks while striking out seven in a complete-game effort for Auburn.
SATURDAY
GENEVA — Camp Churchill gave the Jamestown Tarp Skunks their best outing on the mound this summer Saturday evening at McDonough Park.
The McMurray University right-hander tossed a complete-game three-hitter with four strikeouts and two walks as Jamestown beat the Geneva Red Wings 9-0.
Churchill faced just four batters over the minimum, throwing 63 of his 98 pitches for strikes. He retired the side in order in the first, third, fifth, sixth and eighth innings. Camphill pitched around a leadoff walk in the second inning, getting out of the frame with a double play. He lost his no-hit bid on a one-out infield single in the fourth inning. Geneva never got a runner past second base.
The Tarp Skunks gave Churchill the only runs he would need with a two-run top of the first inning. CJ Dugan and Eric Weeks opened the game with back-to-back singles before an error on a fielder’s choice allowed Dugan to score the first run of the game. After two walks, Anthony Trommer drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-0.
Jamestown added three more runs in the fifth inning and its final four runs in the ninth.
Sean Spitaleri went 3 for 4 with two runs scored while Dugan and Weeks each added a pair of hits for the Tarp Skunks. Nate Muncy and Paul Dulanto each drove in a pair of runs.
