Wednesday Travel League makes inaugural visit to Dande Farms GC
AKRON — The Wednesday Travel League made its first ever trip to Dande Farms Golf Course, making it the 76th different course played since records began being kept in 2001.
Jeff Nelson shot the low round of 77 to capture his second tour win of the season. Finishing second, just a stroke behind with 78, was 13-year-old amateur Carter Crabtree, who broke 80 for the first time. In third place with 84 was John Bongiovanni, who also shot the low round by a senior. Nelson led the front nine with 38 and Crabtree led the back nine with a 1-over par 37.
In the B Flight, Dave Franklin was the winner after a tiebreaker with Tom Sacilowski and Bob Thompson. In the C Flight, Mike Willoughby won after a tiebreaker with Tim Walawender. The winner of the Bruce “Java” Chrabasz Commissioner’s Award was Joe Bifaro.
Untied birdies were recorded by: A Flight — Bongiovanni (Nos. 2 and 9), Joe Michalski (No. 8), Crabtree (Nos. 11 and 18), and Nelson (Nos. 15 and 16); B Flight — Gary Haase (No. 3), Franklin (Nos. 6 and 13), Jeff Marsowicz (No. 8), Thompson (No. 9) and Don Kujawa (Nos. 15 and 16); C Flight — Pat Weaver (Nos. 1 and 8), Tom Destro (Nos. 2 and 7), Pete Pinkoski (Nos. 4 and 12), Mike Willoughby (No. 5), Bob Kujawa (Nos. 10 and 14) and Walawender (Nos. 13 and 16).
Closest to the pin were: Sacilowski (No. 3), Dave Wallace (No. 6), Bob Kujawa (No. 14) and Ron Szach (No. 16). Winners of the Steeplechase were: Nelson (A Flight), Marsowicz (B) and Weaver (C).

Gary Haase moved past both Butch Mackowiak and Josh Hilliker for ninth place on the All-Time Points List. Bob Kujawa became the 62nd golfer to reach 1,000 career points.
This week the league plays its third major of the season, the “Pennsylvania Open” at Green Meadows Golf Course in Northeast, Pennsylvania. The first group tees off at 9:30 a.m.
