Kosciuszcko Club Phillies 2 Stuart Tool & Die A’s 1
The bats for both teams were silent for the first three innings until Dylan Bankoski led off the top of the fourth with a no-doubt home run over the left field fence which turned out to be the lone A’s run.
Then, in the bottom of the fourth, the Phillies were able to manufacture a run off a walk and an errant pickoff throw, and a Mark Zinni RBI single to tie the game. The Phillies plated the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning with a walk-off single by Alberto Benejan.
Mark Zemla pitched the final two innings to get the win while also collecting two hits. Benejan was the defensive star, making several spectacular plays to keep the A’s off the board.Travis Butcher was the tough-luck loser, scattering five hits while striking out 11. Zack Nykula, Gib Stuart and Jim Quinn all had two hits in the loss.
