JAMESTOWN -- Jackson Butzer (Frewsburg) walked and came all the way around to score on an errant pickoff throw and another error as the Diamond Dawgs rallied from a 12-2 deficit to beat Academy Stars 13-12 in the WNY Premier League's Mickey Mantle Division championship game Saturday at Diethrick Park.
Curtis Spielman (Frewsburg) earned the win in 3 1-3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing no hits while striking out three and walking four.
Academy Stars went up 12-2 in the top of the fourth inning before the Diamond Dawgs answered with an eight-run bottom of the fourth. Huxley Hale (Falconer) led off with a walk, Caden Lacki (Cassadaga Valley) singled and Butzer walked to load the bases. Cory Troutman (Southwestern) walked to force in a run before Lukas Youngberg (Falconer) hit an RBI single. After Collin Bragg (Frewsburg) was hit by a pitch and Spielman walked to force in two more runs, Rylan Cambria (Fredonia) hit a two-run single. Jaxson Swanson (Frewsburg) followed with a two-run single to make it 12-10.
The Diamond Dawgs made it 12-11 in the fifth when Troutman walked with one out, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball.
In the sixth, Cambria led off with a triple and scored on Swanson's RBI sacrifice bunt.
The Academy Stars' leadoff batter walked to open the seventh, stole second and went to third on a passed ball, but a strikeout, a foul popout and a lineout allowed the Diamond Dawgs to get to the bottom of the frame still tied.
Cambria went 2 for 3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored; Youngberg was 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored; and Bragg doubled for the Diamond Dawgs.
