FREWSBURG -- Audrey Eckwahl scored a pair of goals off headers, establishing a new Frewsburg career scoring record in the process, as the Bears beat Allegany-Limestone/Hinsdale 5-4 in a wild nonleague matchup Thursday at the Frewsburg Sports Complex.
Frewsburg led 3-2 at halftime. Jaden Jimerson opened the scoring from Presleigh Stelmack in the 17th minute before Eckwahl scored her first header of the game off an Ellie Cappa corner kick in the 26th minute to make it 2-0. The goal was the 86th of Eckwahl's career, breaking the previous mark set by Ava Jimerson.
"That's definitely a huge part of our game. She scored against Southwestern in the air. She is dominant in the air," Frewsburg head coach Scott Stone said of Eckwahl. "She's dedicated her whole life to soccer. She's been on varsity since eighth grade and started since ninth grade. She works extremely hard all year-round."
The Gators' Kennedy Honeck answered from from Kenna MacArthur in the 34th minute to make it 2-1 before Eckwahl scored another header off a Cappa corner in the 38th minute to make it 3-1.
Unfortunately for the Bears, Honeck responded off the ensuing kickoff, scoring 30 seconds later to make it 3-2.
After halftime, Allegany-Limestone/Hinsdale's Leea Kopp scored in the 23rd minute from Honeck to make it 3-3.
Frewsburg regained the lead when Stelmack scored on a header off another Cappa corner to make it 4-3 in the 65th minute. Jimerson tallied an unassisted goal in the 70th minute to make it 5-3 before Kopp scored from Kai Wojewoda-Ko 30 seconds later to make it 5-4.
But the final eight minutes were relatively calm compared to the rest of the game as the Bears held on for their second win.
Leah Pasieka made seven saves for Frewsburg while Meagan Morgan and MacArthur split nine saves for the Gators.
LYON'S GOAL HOLDS UP AS WINNER
ELLICOTTVILLE -- Juleana Lyon's first-half goal held up as the winner to send Ellicottville past Springville 1-0 in nonleague play.
Ady Andrews made 10 saves to record the clean sheet for the Eagles (1-1-0).
The Griffins fell to 0-2-0 on the season.
