Locals shine at East Aurora XC Invite

EAST AURORA -- Savannah Whitney turned in an impressive performance at the East Aurora Invitational on Saturday.
Representing Clymer/Sherman/Panama, the eighth-grader toured the 5K course in 18 minutes, 25.02 seconds to claim the top finish among area cross-country runners, girls or boys.
Other local girls who finished in the top 30 were Fredonia eighth-grader Sydney Yerico (19:22.46) and Silver Creek junior Leah Mays (19:52.17).
Lancaster sophomore Charlotte Winnicki crossed the finish line first, posting a time of 17:41.37.
Victor led the team scores with 80 points, Fredonia was 11th with 395, Clymer/Sherman/Panama was 14th with 458, Frewsburg was 15th with 463, Jamestown was 16th with 481, Silver Creek was 21st with 567 and Gowanda was 37th with 923.
In the boys race, Jamestown junior Thomas Kathman was the top local finisher, placing 16th with a time of 16:12.25. The other area runner to finish in the top 30 was Jamestown senior Caleb Johnson, who crossed the finish line in 20th place (16:32.45).
Kenmore East junior Sam Clark placed first with a time of 14:58.11; East Aurora was the team winner with 28 points, followed by Hamburg with 66. Silver Creek was 21st with 625 points.
