Several found in football rankings; Westfield/Brocton is No. 9 in boys soccer

Randolph is the highest-ranked local team in the New York State Sportswriters Association's Week 3 football rankings, which were released Wednesday.

The Cardinals (2-1, 1-0) are No. 7 in Class D after losing to nonleague St. Mary's of Lancaster 26-20 on the last play of the game Saturday.

Franklinville/Ellicottville and Silver Creek/Forestville received honorable-mention recognition in Class D. The Titans (2-1, 1-1) beat Cattaraugus-Little Valley last Friday night and will travel to No. 13 Newfane this coming Friday. The Black Knights (1-2, 0-1) lost to Newfane last Friday and will visit Cattaraugus-Little Valley this Friday.

Wilson also received honorable-mention status in Class D where Dolgeville of Section III is No. 1 in the state.

In Class C, Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton moved into a tie for No. 20 after receiving honorable-mention recognition last week. The Eagles (2-1, 2-0) beat Salamanca 34-0 last Friday and will host honorable-mention Clymer/Sherman/Panama this Friday in Mayville. The Wolfpack (2-1, 1-1) lost their first game of the season last Friday 18-14 against honorable-mention Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove. The Herd (2-1, 1-0) will host No. 16 Portville/Cuba-Rushford/Bolivar-Richburg this Friday in Falconer. The Panthers (3-0, 1-0) beat nonleague Olean 26-21 last Friday. Fredonia also received honorable mention in Class C after beating Gowanda/Pine Valley 24-22 last Friday at the Orange Bowl. The Hillbillies (2-1, 1-1) will host Allegany-Limestone/Hinsdale this Friday.

Springville is No. 13 while Barker/Royalton-Hartland and Cleveland Hill are honorable-mention choices in Class C where Chenango Forks of Section IV is the top-ranked team in the state.

In Class AA, St. Francis is No. 5, Canisius is No. 11, Bennett is No. 24 and Health Sciences/Buffalo Academy of Science/Global Concepts is No. 27 while Timon-St. Jude, Lancaster and St. Joe's are honorable-mention selections. Iona Prep of the Catholic High Schools Athletic Association is No. 1.

In Class A, Orchard Park is No. 12, West Seneca West is No. 17 and Grand Island is No. 29 while Clarence, Hamburg, Starpoint, Williamsville East and Williamsville North are honorable-mention choices. Garden City of Section VIII is the top-ranked team.

In Class B, McKinley is No. 5, West Seneca East is No. 13 and OC Rivals is No. 25 while Depew, Iroquois, Maryvale, Pioneer, St. Mary's and Williamsville South are all honorable-mention selections. Monroe of Section V and Sayville of Section XI are co-No. 1 teams in the state.

BOYS SOCCER

Westfield/Brocton is the top-ranked local team in boys soccer, residing in the No. 9 spot in Class C with a 6-0-0 record entering this week. The Wolverines already beat Chautauqua Lake and Maple Grove this week and will travel to North East (Pa.) on Saturday for a rematch of last Saturday's matchup, which Westfield/Brocton won 2-1.

Wilson is No. 4 in Class C while East Rochester of Section V is the No. 1 team.

North Collins is No. 14 in Class D with a 1-1-2 record entering this week. The Eagles beat Maple Grove on Monday, but lost to Silver Creek/Forestville on Wednesday. North Collins will close its week Friday at home against nonleague Eden.

Fillmore of Section V is No. 1 in Class D.

In Class AAA, Lancaster is No. 18 while Commack of Section XI is the state's top-ranked team.

In Class AA, Clarence is No. 9 and Williamsville North is No. 11 while Huntington of Section XI is the No. 1 team.

In Class A, Lewiston-Porter is No. 10, East Aurora is No. 13 and Williamsville East is No. 16 while Amityville of Section XI is the No. 1 team.

Lafayette International is No. 2 in Class B and Alden is tied for No. 20 while Carle Place of Section VIII is the state's top-ranked team.

GIRLS SOCCER

Salamanca is the top-ranked local team in girls soccer, taking the No. 15 spot in Class B.

The Warriors entered this week with a 4-1-0 record, but lost 2-0 to Randolph on Tuesday. They will host Class D No. 18 Ellicottville today.

St. Mary's of Lancaster is No. 2, Allegany-Limestone/Hinsdale is No. 8 and Eden is No. 18 in Class B where Pleasantville of Section I is the top-ranked team in the state.

Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove is No. 17 in Class A, entering this week with a 5-1-0 record. The Herd beat Fredonia 1-0 on Tuesday and will host Southwestern today before visiting Class C No. 17 Frewsburg on Saturday afternoon.

Also in Class A, Starpoint is No. 13 and East Aurora is tied for No. 20 while Rye of Section I is the state's top-ranked team.

Frewsburg entered this week with a 5-2-0 record before beating Chautauqua Lake 5-0 on Tuesday. The Bears will host Dunkirk today before hosting the Herd on Saturday.

Wilson is No. 5 in Class C where Avon of Section V is the No. 1 team in the state.

Ellicottville entered this week with a 4-2-0 record before beating Franklinville on Tuesday. The Eagles will travel to Salamanca today and North Collins on Friday.

Cincinnatus of Section III is the top-ranked Class D team in the state.

In Class AAA, Lancaster is No. 20 while Cicero-North Syracuse of Section III is No. 1 in the state.

Orchard Park is No. 11 in Class AA where South Side of Section VIII is the top team in the state.
