Cougars oust Hornets on Spike Out Cancer night in Forestville

FORESTVILLE -- The Forestville volleyball program held its 15th annual Spike Out Cancer fundraiser against Cassadaga Valley in a Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 4 match Thursday.

The event raised over $42,000 in the previous 14 events and this year the proceeds went to a local family.

"Shout out to the Forestville and Cassadaga Valley communities for showing up and donating to a local family." Forestville head coach Ryanne Dugan said. "It was appreciated by the family and the program."

Cassadaga Valley picked up the win on the special night in four sets, winning 25-17, 25-20, 24-26, 25-10. The Cougars (11-3, 7-1) were led by Melanie Myles with two kills, four digs, 21 assists, four aces and five points; Alexis Pattyson scored 12 kills, one block, six digs, three aces and four points; Kailee Lacki had eight kills, four digs, seven aces and 12 points; and Eliana Katilus made 16 digs, two aces and seven points.

The Forestville (4-7, 3-5) effort was led by Jazmyn Bertino with four kills and a block; Liz Case made five aces, 10 assists, five kills and three digs; and Alana Emke added an ace, four kills, two digs and three blocks.

RED & GREEN UPENDS MARAUDERS

DUNKIRK -- Jamestown held off Dunkirk for a sweep in Division 1, 25-16, 25-15, 30-28.

The Red & Green improved to 7-4 overall and 5-4 in league.

Dunkirk dropped to 0-9 overall and 0-8 in the division.

HUSKIES WIN MARATHON

OLEAN -- Falconer and Olean went back and forth before the Huskies beat the Golden Falcons 25-17, 15-25, 27-25, 21-25, 15-8 in Division 1 play.

Olean improved to 9-4 overall and 6-3 in the league.

Falconer fell to 2-12 overall and 2-8 in the league.

WESTFIELD RALLIES PAST PIRATES

WESTFIELD -- After dropping the opening set, Westfield rattled off three wins to defeat Clymer in nonleague action 17-25, 25-23, 25-19, 25-12.

Shelby Begier paced the Wolverines (11-2) with 33 assists and five digs; Avery Smith provided 18 kills, three digs and three aces; Molly Burgess had a kill, 10 digs and an ace; Isabella Sorrento made two kills, three digs and three aces; and Ava Babcock added three kills, four blocks and a dig.

Clymer (10-4) was led by Harleigh Faulkner with 13 kills, nine digs and an ace; Mikaela Jackson scored 10 kills, two aces and two digs; Keira Kinal made six kills, one dig and an ace; Maiya Dunnewold provided five kills, 28 assists and two aces; and Addie Wiggers added five digs.

PORTVILLE ROLLS SOUTHWESTERN

WEST ELLICOTT -- Emily Scanlon provided five kills and three blocks as Portville swept Southwestern 25-6, 25-17, 25-8 in Division 1.

Leigha Stives had 11 kills, an ace, one dig and a block for Portville (10-2, 8-0). Marissa Carls scored three kills 21 assists, five aces, three digs and a block; Ava Haynes collected two assists, three aces and 20 digs; Elaina Thompson made five digs and five aces; and Ella Wentworth had three kills, an ace and six blocks.

Southwestern dropped to 7-8 overall and 3-7 in league.

WHITMER, NORTHRUP POWER EAGLES

ELLICOTTVILLE -- Riley Whitmer and Karle Northrup combined for 28 kills as Ellicottville beat Randolph 23-25, 25-14, 25-18, 25-22 in Division 2 action.

Whitmer had 16 kills and 31 digs while Northrup had 12 kills, 14 digs, two assists and three aces for the Eagles (9-8, 4-6). Shiloh Miller handed out 26 assists to go along with two kills, 17 digs and six aces; Katie Laffery had seven kills and two blocks; Rose Benjamin had 15 digs and two aces; and Marlee Maynard had 17 digs and an ace.

The Cardinals fell to 6-7 overall and 4-5 in the league.

WEDNESDAY

PIRATES OUTLAST SHERMAN

CLYMER -- Keira Kinal had 15 kills to go along with a block, a dig and five service points, including two aces, as Clymer topped Sherman 25-13, 25-15, 25-27, 23-25, 15-6 in Division 4 action Wednesday.

Alyssa Pratt had 17 service points, including two aces, and nine digs; Maiya Dunnewold had 37 assists, two kills, a block, four digs and seven service points, including two aces; Mikaela Jackson had six kills, three blocks, three digs and 15 service points, including three aces; and Harleigh Faulkner had seven kills, nine digs and nine service points, including two aces, for the Pirates (10-3, 7-1).

Emmersen Crawford had 10 kills and five digs; Carlie Gable had six kills, 11 digs and an ace; Madison Emory had four kills, four digs and three aces; and Caylee Pinzok had eight assists and six aces for the Wildcats (4-8, 3-5).

Clymer also won the jayvee matchup.

NORTH COLLINS TAKES MARATHON

SOUTH DAYTON -- North Collins needs five sets to down Pine Valley 23-25, 27-25, 25-14, 13-25, 15-13 in Division 4 play Wednesday.

The Eagles improved to 4-10 overall and 2-6 in the league.

Ava West had 12 kills, 14 digs, three assists and an ace to lead the Panthers (5-7, 2-6). Madi Robertson added 24 assists, seven aces and three digs while Breanna Snyder had 25 digs.
