Hillbillies have successful day at Fredonia High School

FREDONIA -- Fredonia/Westfield won the boys race with 26 points and the girls race with 23 points during Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association cross country Tuesday at Fredonia High School.

Sydney Yerico finished second, Meredith Lendt was fourth, Izzie Czekanski was sixth, Peyton Krenzer was seventh and Estella Tonelli was 10th for the Hillbillies in the girls race.

"Sydney Yerico and Peyton Krenzer ran, by far, their best races of the year," Fredonia/Westfield head coach Carol Zirkle said.

Clymer/Sherman/Panama's Savannah Whitney won the girls race in 19:09, but the Wolfpack were an incomplete team. Allegany-Limestone was second with 35 points, led by third-place Elexa Duggan. Gowanda was third with 79 points.

For Fredonia/Westfield's boys, Trent Krenzer was third, Jack Fagan was fourth, Alex Cramer was sixth, Liam Simpson was eighth and Levi Kindermann was 10th.

"Liam Simpson had his best race of the year for the boys," Zirkle said.

Allegany-Limestone's Nolan Wilczewski won the boys race in 16:58, but the Gators were an incomplete team. Gowanda was second with 49 points, led by fifth-place Jaxon Hagan, while Clymer/Sherman/Panama was third with 61 points, led by second-place Ely Smith.

JAMESTOWN BOYS DOMINATE

JAMESTOWN -- Four runners in the top five allowed Jamestown to beat Olean, Salamanca and Brocton in boys action at the Martin Road Athletic Complex.

The Red & Green's Caleb Johnson won the individual race in 18:23 as Jamestown finished with 22 points. Olean was second with 57 points, led by sixth-place Daks Perry. Salamanca was third with 58 points, led by third-place Aiden George. Brocton finished fourth with 85 points.

Jamestown won the girls team race with 15 points, led by third-place London Hamilton. Brocton was second with 49 points, led by ninth-place Khloe Krauter. Olean and Salamanca were incomplete.

SC/D/F, SOUTHWESTERN TIE IN GIRLS RACE

WEST ELLICOTT -- Silver Creek/Dunkirk/Forestville's Leah Mays was first in the girls race with a time of 21:23 while her teammate, Emma Golembieski, was second. Southwestern's Lillian Weikel was third and her teammate, Elorna Barnett, was fourth as the Trojans and Titans tied at Southwestern Central School.

Southwestern's girls won with 33 points, breaking a tie with Silver Creek/Dunkirk/Forestville with each team's sixth runner. Falconer/Cassadaga Valley was third with 61 points, led by sixth-place Angelica Mullen, and Franklinville/Ellicottville was incomplete.

Kellen Hatch finished the boys race in 19:16 to lead Franklinville/Ellicottville to a team victory with 25 points. Falconer/Cassadaga Valley's boys were second with 57 points, led by second-place Theo Krenzer. Southwestern was third with 58 points, led by sixth-place Kaleb James. Silver Creek/Dunkirk/Forestville was fourth with 73 points, led by seventh-place Marcus Crane.
