Lendt, Yerico lead Hillbillies at McQuaid Invitational

ROCHESTER -- The Clymer/Sherman/Panama cross country teams had quite the showing at the McQuaid Invitational at Genesee Valley Park with a Top 3 finish in the A-2 small schools boys race and claimed eighth in the girls race, highlighted by Savannah Whitney crossing the finish line first on Saturday morning.

The Wolfpack eighth-grader, Whitney, traversed the 3-mile course in a blistering time of 17:49.5, four seconds faster than Lake Placid's Leila Fey in second at 17:53.9. She was the ninth fastest girl overall out of 1,494 competitors.

Clymer/Sherman/Panama finished in eighth place with a team score of 364 with Grace Cooke (19:28.6) taking 16th, Bethany Schlabach (21:43.0), Bria Palmatier (22:54.9) and Caitlyn Kriner (22:58.8).

The Clymer/Sherman/Panama boys were powered by four Top 50 finishes and all five scorers cracked 100 with a team score of 159. Leading the Wolfpack was Christopher Phelps (15:55.6) in 10th, Flynn Fadale (16:07.6) in 15th, Zach Odell (16:28.2) in 26th, Ely Smith (16:42.6) in 36th and Brody Ellis (17:46.5).

While Whitney posted the top individual finish, it was the Fredonia/Westfield girls in the A-1 small schools race with the highest team placement by a local girls team taking fourth. Helping the Hillbillies crack the Top 5 were a pair of Top 10 finishes from senior Meredith Lendt (19:05.6) in sixth and eighth-grader Sydney Yerico (19:06.8) in eighth. Fredonia/Westfield added strong finishes from Izzabella Czekanski (20:17.7) in 35th, Peyton Krenzer (21:10.7) and Estella Tonelli (21:38.3).

The Fredonia/Westfield boys also cracked the Top 10, claiming eighth with a score of 383. The Hillbillies were led by Trent Krenzer (17:18.7) in 43rd, Solomon McKnatt (17:23.5) in 48th, Jack Fagan (17:49.6) and Levi Kinderman (17:54.5).

The Eisenhower (Pa.) boys finished ahead of Fredonia/Westfield in the A-1 small school race taking sixth with a score of 338. The Knights were led by Parker McBride (17:04.0) in 26th, Mason Britt (17:33.9) in 58th, Alex Lund (17:38.1) in 64th, Joseph Fanelli (18:10.6) and Cameron Lindell (18:15.3).

The Eisenhower (Pa.) girls had two runners crack the top 100 with Josie Elms (20:59.1) in 58th and Isabelle Grosch (21:29.9) in 83rd, but the Lady Knights did not place as a team.

Southwestern also had both teams place in the A-1 small schools race with the girls taking 20th and the boys coming in 47th.

The girls were led by Lillian Weikel (19:58.3) in 29th, Elorna Barnett (21:48.2), Larissa Raak (24:01.2), Gabriella Chimenti (24:05.2) and Leala Carlson (24:31.2). The boys were led by Kaleb James (19:30.0), Thomas Chase (19:53.7), Nayen Berlund (20:19.6), Dorian Weaver (21:06.1) and Ryen Hebner (21:06.4).

The Salamanca boys finished 45th in the A-1 small schools race, while the girls had just one runner compete with Elliott Merrill making the Top 100 at 21:27.5. The boys were paced by Aiden George (18:31.2), Denver Parsons (20:14.0), George Parsons (20:40.2), Curtis Starr (20:43.0) and Jayden Barton (22:33.9).

While the Wolfpack paved the way in the A-2 small school race with a Top 10 finish in the girls race, Frewsburg just missed out taking 11th with 382 points. Leading the Frewsburg girls was Grace Gilevski (20:21.7) in 47th, Raegan Cheney (20:58.1), Greta Gilevski (21:22.1), Skye Carter (22:09.2) and Alexis Darling (22:25.2).

The Maple Grove girls were also just on the outside of the Top 10 with a finish at 14th posting a score of 420. The Red Dragons were led by Lily Elliss (20:35.3), Evalyn Fessel (21:19.9), Hayden Allen (21:51.8), Olivia Sherry (22:16.7) and Rylie Allen (22:16.8).

The Falconer/Cassadaga Valley girls came in 38th with a score of 845 being led by Angelica Mullen (22:00.5), Morgan Robbins (23:45.9), Alycin Debo (23:51.3), Kadence Swanson (24:48.0) and Gabrielle Cunningham (26:12.0).

Gowanda/Pine Valley was behind the Golden Cougars in 40th with a score of 1,054. Leading the way for the Panthers were Alivia Richter (24:25.8), Kat Soska (24:45.1), Raelyn Diebel (25:31.4), Alana Young (25:56.8) and Bella DeGolier (26:08.1).

The Clymer/Sherman/Panama boys were not alone in the Top 10 of the A-2 small school race being joined by Maple Grove taking 10th with 399 points. Leading the Red Dragons was Jack Sherry (16:30.4) in 29th, Liam Price (17:22.0), Finn Erlandson (17:38.1), Will Benson (17:55.7) and Max Reynolds (18:30.9).

The Falconer/Cassadaga Valley boys came in 22nd with a score of 693 led by Anson Miller (16:54.5) in 47th, Theo Krenzer (18:06.6), Jaxson Bidney (18:58.4), Kayden Hetrick (19:03.1) and Marcus Parmentier (19:32.4).

Frewsburg finished 31st with a score of 802, while Gowanda/Pine Valley came in 32nd with 854. The Bears were led by Strider Dahlin (17:48.4), Chaos Hedges (18:02.8), Jaxson Swanson (19:21.4), Alex VanOrd (19:32.5) and Tyler Lundgren (19:43.9). The Panthers were led by Jaxon Hagan (18:05.5), Jayden Fish (18:42.6), Gabe Snyder (18:53.2), Judd Hales (19:40.1) and Brycen Warrior (19:53.0).

Cattaraugus-Little Valley saw three boys compete in the race with Nolan Emborsky (19:35.2), Isaac Luce (21:19.6) and Jayden Mahone (24:40.2).

The Jamestown girls finished 14th among the AAA large schools with a score of 355, while the boys came in 17th with 391. The Red & Green girls were led by London Hamilton (19:48.6) in 27th, Julia Stormont (20:48.1), Nora Bailey (22:39.5), Amina El Mohandis (23:29.8) and Piper Ecklof (23:44.4). The boys were led by Thomas Kathman (16:06.5) in 15th, Hudson Himes (17:07.0) in 50th, Dwight King (18:05.7), Joseph Jacques (19:39.3) and Chase Slagle (19:40.1).

The Silver Creek/Dunkirk/Forestville girls finished 18th in the AA medium schools race, while the boys placed 38th. Representing the girls were Leah Mays (19:46.3) in 31st, Emma Golembieski (20:30.7) in 48th, Leona Crane (22:30.2), Emma Raczka (23:35.4) and Liliana Wickmark (26:58.6). Pacing the boys were Marcus Crane (18:56.4), Daniel Thies Jr. (19:41.2), Caden Fote (19:47.3), Derek Bauer (22:20.1) and Mason Smith (23:28.8).

Randolph had just one girl compete in the AA medium schools race with Kadence Durow (21:51.8), while two boys represented the Cardinals in Jonathon Brown (20:26.8) and Lian Sieber (21:08.1).

Joining Whitney in the overall Top 100 were Lendt at 87th and Yerico in 89th for the Hillbillies. Phelps was the only local boy to finish in the overall Top 100 taking 95th for the Wolfpack out of 2,465 male competitors.
