CASSADAGA — Brad Kelly recorded his first-ever hole-in-one last Thursday at Cassadaga Country Club. Using his 7-iron, Kelly aced the 172-yard 17th hole. The shot was witnessed by Nick Krupa, Tom McQuiggan and Steve Wintersteen.

Ocasio leads Fredonia to unified hoops win

Julian Ocasio scored 12 points to lead Fredonia past Frewsburg 44-35 in Unified basketball Thursday. Austin Duliba added 10 points while Louie Gugino and Luke McKnatt each scored 6. Kaiden Strycula and Mason Wienke each scored 4 points and Devin Batten chipped in 2. Jaxmin McIntire scored 12 points for Frewsburg while Abery Harvey and Billy Degolier each added 8. Connor Wilburn scored 4 points and Cole Vaughn had 3 for the Bears. Fredonia plays at Southwestern on Wednesday.

Fredonia rolls into semifinals

FREDONIA — No. 4 Fredonia pounded out 14 hits with all nine starters having at least one en route to a 13-1 five-inning win over No. 5 Royalton-Hartland in a Section VI Class B softball quarterfinal Thursday. The Hillbillies scored two runs in the first inning and four more in the second before a six-run third inning. During that frame, 10 batters came to the plate and Fredonia had seven hits. Baseball playoffs begin today

Gowanda and Maple Grove have earned No. 1 seeds in their respective classes in the Section VI baseball playoffs, which begin today in some classes. The top seed in Class C, Gowanda will wait until Tuesday for a quarterfinal matchup while Maple Grove, the top seed in Class D, will wait until next Thursday for a semifinal matchup in its four-team bracket. No. 9 Dunkirk will get postseason play underway today with a Class A2 prequarterfinal at No. 8 Albion.
