Dunkirk softball rallies past Maple Grove

DUNKIRK — A five-run sixth inning helped Dunkirk put away Maple Grove in a 7-4 nonleague softball victory Monday. Ryleigh Donato doubled to open the sixth, stole third and scored on an error. Gabriella Grann reached on a fielder’s choice for the first out and Gensesis Oquendo-Vazquez walked before Eliza Bautista’s two-run triple. For the first time in years, a Randolph Cardinal is not the Player of the Year in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 3 boys basketball. Gowanda junior Trelin Warrior has been bestowed that honor after averaging 18.6 points per game for the Panthers. Kevin Hind was once again named the league’s Coach of the Year after Randolph ran the table to a 10-0 league record.
