MAYVILLE — Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson announced the following indictment in Chautauqua County Court.

On June 7, a Chautauqua County Grand Jury handed down a 20-count indictment against R. Kenneth Asel, the owner of City Garage of Jamestown, d.b.a. Ken Asel R.V.s in Gerry. The allegations include four counts of third-degree grand larceny, one count of second-degree forgery, two counts of criminal tax fraud and 13 counts of offering a false instrument for filing.

This indictment was the result of a lengthy investigation by the Chautauqua County D.A.’s office, the D.A.’s Crimes Against Revenue Program Investigation Unit, The New York State Police, the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.

The allegations surround R. Kenneth Asel’s business practices at Ken Asel R.V.’s between March 2012 through August 2015. The allegations include improper sales procedures, improper remittance of taxes to the State of New York and improper filing of tax returns.

Asel was arrested on a County Court Warrant and he was arraigned on Monday in front of Judge Stephen Cass. Bail was set at $5,000 cash/bond or $10,000 property bond.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
