Dunkirk Police release statement regarding Friday night shooting

It was reported in Saturday’s OBSERVER that Dunkirk Police and Firefighters were called 92 E. Second St., Friday night for a report of a shooting.

An hour later, police had the Halas Hotel taped off but said they were unable to immediately comment on the situation.

Saturday afternoon, Dunkirk Police Chief David Ortolano provided the following update:

“Dunkirk City Police responded to 92 E. Second St. for a reported shooting incident Friday at 9:33 p.m.

“Upon arrival, officers found that a 30-year-old male victim suffered a gunshot wound. The gunshot wound appeared to be not life threatening. The victim was treated at the scene by Dunkirk Fire & Rescue and then transported to ECMC by ALSTAR EMS.

“Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Dunkirk Police Department at 366-2266 or the confidential tip line at 366-0313.”
