Meth, weapon recovered in vehicle stop

COLLINS — Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard reports the arrest of a 31-year-old North Collins resident on drug and weapon charges.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. Sunday, deputies performed a traffic stop along Route 438 in the town of Collins after observing vehicle and traffic violations. Deputies said when they spoke with the driver, Paul Renaldo, he admitted to having an illegal substance in the vehicle. When the deputies searched the vehicle, they allegedly discovered a metal knuckle knife, a ballistic vest, methamphetamine, a digital scale, and a marijuana pipe.

Deputies arrested and charged Renaldo with misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and criminal use of drug paraphernalia.

The defendant was processed at the Sheriff’s North Collins substation and later released with appearance tickets.
