Sheriff’s Office issues scam warning

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning to its residents about scam artists reportedly calling from Social Security Administration requesting individuals to press 1 for further communications asking for personal information.

The Sheriff’s Office encourages individuals to never give out their personal information.

Social Security Administration confirms that they do not call individuals; everything is done through their office by mail.

If such a call is received, residents are encouraged to call their local police agency.
