Mayville man jailed after pair of home invasions in Allegany County

FILLMORE — A 31-year-old Mayville man is facing a host of charges, including kidnapping and robbery, following two home invasions that took place Wednesday in Allegany County.

Mark A. Sarama was arraigned in Hume Town Court and sent to the Allegany County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail.

Troopers were called around Wednesday at 3:30 a.m. to a 911 call for an “unknown, unwanted armed male in a residence on Emerald Street in the village of Fillmore,” the state police said in a news release.

Troopers confronted Sarama outside the residence and near the vehicle of the homeowner. It was learned that the Mayville man had taken the victim from the home at gunpoint to “get more money at the ATM when troopers arrived.”

As he was being taken into custody, Sarama reportedly overdosed on narcotics he had taken previously; he received treatment at Jones Memorial Hospital.

It was later determined that Samara went to another residence on Emerald Street earlier Wednesday and allegedly struck a 90-year-old man with a handgun, knocking him unconscious. While inside the home, Samara reportedly fired the weapon and stole a flat-screen TV and cash.

The 90-year-old called 911 and received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, state police said.

Sarama is facing charges of second-degree kidnapping, two counts of first-degree burglary, two counts of first-degree robbery, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree grand larceny and resisting arrest. A felony hearing is scheduled for later this month, state police said.
