A young child died in a tragic accident this afternoon.

According to State Police in Fredonia, around 4:20 p.m. a four door red sedan was traveling north on Route 60 in the town of Pomfret when the driver attempted to make a left hand turn into Priviteria’s parking lot.

The vehicle was rear-ended by a four-door Chrysler, which pushed the red sedan into oncoming traffic. The red sedan was then struck by a tractor trailer headed south. A 7-year-old girl was ejected and initially sustained trauma to her head and jawline.

She was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital where she later died.

The accident forced the closure of Route 60 for a period of time.
