Eva Lucille Purdy Short

Eva Lucille Purdy Short, 103, of Lutheran formerly of Lakewood, Lewiston and Fredonia, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2021, at Lutheran Social Services, Jamestown, N.Y.

Lucille was born on April 20, 1918, in Sewickley, Pa., the daughter of the late William E. and Eva Irons Purdy.

Following graduation from Coraopolis High School and Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa., she was employed by Robert Morris School, The Shaw Walker Co. and affiliated with radio station KDKA, all in Pittsburgh.

Lucille married Joseph H. Short in Coraopolis, Pa., in September of 1944. Prior to coming to Lakewood they were the owners of the Snelling & Snelling Employment Agency in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

She was an active member and an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Jamestown and its Alpha Circle. Lucille had also been an officer in area and state Presbyterian woman’s organizations.

In addition to traveling, she enjoyed time at Chautauqua Institution. Especially as a member of the board of trustees of the Presbyterian Association. Many will remember her original comedy programs in the area.

In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph H. Short (Nov. 16, 2013) and her brother, Donald Purdy.

Lucille is survived by her son, William S. Short of Lakewood, N.Y.; her niece, Pamela Carpenter of Valparaiso, Ind.; two nephews: Thomas Purdy of Medina, Ohio and Charles Purdy of Twinsburg, Ohio.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family with inurnment in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
