Restaurant shows Bills spirit

MAYVILLE — An un-Billieve-able monument to the Buffalo Bills’ recent success is on display outside Andriaccio’s Restaurant in Mayville.

A large snow sculpture — created by Vince Liuzzo, Nick Andriaccio, restaurant co-owner, and Josh Turner, Andriaccio’s Restaurant employee — has brought some Bills Mafia spirit to the Mayville area. This is the second year such a feat has occurred.

“We’ve had a lot of people stopping, some as early as 6 o’clock in the morning, checking it out,” said Sally Andriaccio, co-owner. “This will be the second one we’ve done. My husband’s been helping build the ice castle from the very beginning when it first started 30 some years ago, so it’s kind of something that he’s passionate about.”

She said they needed to wait for a decent amount of accumulation, and once they built up the pile, Liuzzo helped with the carving of the snow.

“He does the actual final details, sculpting it into what it looks like and he uses spray paint for the colors,” she said.

Andriaccio said the sculpture is a fun way to help the restaurant, located at 4837 West Lake Road, and community endure the long winter, and provides support for the Bills’ culture in the region.

Liuzzo said it was a joy to help create the “Billieve” sculpture. Not only was it an interesting project to work on, but Liuzzo said he was able to help his relatives. His sister is married to Andriaccio’s son.

Last year, Nick Andriaccio had spoken with him after the ice castle was canceled in Mayville about possibly erecting an ice castle in the restaurant parking lot. Eventually, the pair agreed on a Bills sculpture.

This year, Liuzzo said they had to make it bigger and better.

“I said as soon as it starts snowing out of the gate, we have to do something better and bigger and cooler than last time because everybody’s going to be driving by expecting it,” he said. “After a couple of days of working on it, people were honking as soon as they saw a stockpile of snow. It’s fun and it’s a good chance to hang out — I feel like the only time I get to see my buddies is when we’re working on something. If (the Bills) keep winning, we’re probably going to add on to it. If they go to the Super Bowl, we’ll do some more stuff.”

Liuzzo said he is hopeful the Bills will make it to the Super Bowl, not only because he is rooting for them, but because of the joy it brings so many in the community. The Bills take on Kansas City on Sunday evening.
