Fredonia approves hiring of next fire chief

Fredonia Village Clerk Annemarie Johnston offers a handshake to Fire Chief Joshua Myers after swearing him into office Monday.

Joshua Myers is the new chief of the Fredonia Fire Department.

Fredonia’s Board of Trustees voted Monday to hire the Buffalo man, previously chief of Seneca Hose Co. No. 1 in the town of West Seneca.

Myers was sworn in by Village Clerk Annemarie Johnston immediately after the vote.

Uniformed Fredonia Fire Department employees temporarily crowded the Village Hall meeting room to show support and congratulate Myers. He left with them immediately after taking his oath of office with Johnston and did not make any remarks.

Myers will make $100,000 a year, and his first day on the job is Monday. He will get an additional $5,000 per year when he passes a civil service test.

Starting at $3.50/week.
