Six-year terms eyed for city of Dunkirk posts
The city of Dunkirk’s treasurer and assessor would each get longer terms under a proposal up for consideration today by the Common Council.
The proposal would extend the terms of the two elected positions from two years to six years, the council’s agenda states.
The change cannot be approved at today’s meeting. Because it would represent an alteration to city law, the Common Council must schedule a public hearing before approving it.
The item on today’s agenda proposes the public hearing for the next council meeting in two weeks. The council would also vote on the change at the same meeting, following the hearing.
Mark Woods, the city’s current treasurer, has held the office since the 1990s. He was unopposed when he ran for re-election last year.
Assessor Erica Munson, on the other hand, was just elected to her position in 2021, and had to defeat a challenger, Frank Beach.
