Cassadaga welcomes new Village Trustee

CASSADAGA — A seat on the Cassadaga Village Board of Trustees is no longer vacant.

At the most recent meeting of the Village Board of Trustees, Cathy Cruver was officially sworn in to serve the remainder of the four-year term of Village Trustee left vacant by Rachyl Krupa, who resigned in November. Cruver will serve on the board until November of 2023, at which point an election will be held for the position with a four-year term.

Initially it was reported by the OBSERVER that Sean Seibert was the only member of the community to express interest in the vacant position as of Tuesday, Nov. 22. Since then, the Village Board received more interest and came to a decision, which culminated in Cruver’s appointment on Dec. 14.

Village Clerk Roxanne Astry, who officially took Cruver’s oath at the recent meeting, told the OBSERVER that Cruver was selected in part because of her dedication to voice her opinion at recent meetings – specifically about the regulation of short-term rental properties. Also influencing the selection was Cruver’s standing in the community as a teacher with the Fredonia Central School District and a village resident of over 30 years. “She is well-liked and respected in the community,” Astry told the OBSERVER.

Also at the recent meeting, after a public hearing, the Village Board passed a local law related to New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, along with Energy Conservation. Many local municipalities have passed similar laws in recent months, as New York State has required updated regulations on code enforcement.

The next meeting of the Cassadaga Village Board of Trustees is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. at the Cassadaga Fire Hall.

Starting at $3.50/week.
